Ch. 47INDIGO (TWENTY)

“CHAS, are you really sure about this?"

Chastity smiled sadly after remembering her past with Indigo.

She regretted everything she said that day to him. She regretted that she didn't listen to him. She regretted that she let her anger get the best of her. She regretted that she pushed him away.

After finding out that Indigo was already back in Manila, she already lost all contact with him. He doesn’t have any social media accounts… Even Deanna couldn't help her since he was mad at his own cousin.

Then one day, Karen informed her that Indigo was her schoolmate at Montello University.

Indigo was taking up Civil Engineering. It was also Karen who told her that Indigo was a member of a famous band on their campus.

“Chas, don’t you think it’s too late? Three years had passed. What if he's already moved on? What if he already has a girlfriend?”

Chastity suddenly remembered the girl she saw with Indigo the other day. She was tall and beautiful. Her heart clenched thinking that woman is his girlfriend.

“I don't know, Karen. All I know is that I would do everything it takes to win him back...” Chastity said, determination in her voice.

Karen sighed. “If that's the case, then you need a plan.”

Chastity nodded. She needed to talk to Indigo. She had a lot of things to say to him.

Karen held her hand and gave her a small smile. “Don’t worry, I’ll help you, Chas.”

Chastity smiled back at her best friend. “Thank you, Karen.”

“Hi!”

Chastity looked at the guy who greeted her. It was the first day of the new semester so the class ended early.

"Uhm, hello," Chastity greeted back, smiling a bit.

"I noticed you aren't talking to anyone," the guy said. "I'm Mark, by the way," his smile widened as he held out his hand to her.

Chastity examined the man in front. He was handsome and he looked nice.

“Chastity,” she said, accepting his hand.

“Are you a new student here?" Mark asked. "We're already in the second semester of class but this is the first time I saw your face here in our department."

She nodded. “I'm from Ateneo de Davao.”

While talking to Mark, her cell phone pinged in her pocket. It was a text from Karen.

 I’m here outside your room.

Chastity's eyes went outside. She saw Karen standing outside. She smiled at her friend before looking back at Mark. “I have to go,” she said to him. “My friend's already here.”

Mark raised his brow. “Karen is your friend?”

“You know Karen?" she asked him back.

The corner of Mark's lips curled up in a smile. “She was my classmate before.”

Chastity smiled. “Wow, small world."

Mark nodded and smiled back. “See you around, Chastity.”

“Mark is your classmate?” Karen asked while they were leaving the building.

Chastity nodded at her friend. “Yup. He said you two were classmates before?”

Karen scoffed, which she didn't expect. “Don't talk to that guy again, Chas.”

Chastity's brows furrowed. “Why, Karen? He seemed like a nice guy. He's friendly.”

Karen rolled her eyes. “Nice, my ass. Hmp, let's stop talking about that guy, okay?"

They went to the cafeteria. Chastity couldn't help but look around. She was hoping she would see Indigo.

"Stop trying to look for Indigo, Chas," Karen said as they settled on the vacant table. She then handed her a piece of paper. She realized it was an invitation.

“My classmate invited me to her birthday tomorrow. And I heard she invited the Flying Colors...” Karen smiled at her. “It’s your chance to see and talk to Indigo, Chas.”

CHASTITY was nervous. Her heartbeat went faster as they arrived at the party.

She wasn't able to get a proper sleep last night. She kept on thinking about every word that she would tell Indigo if she got the chance to talk to him tonight.

A mellow rock music filled her ears.

Chastity straightened the skirt of her dress as she followed Karen to the garden area where the party was happening.

Come on, Chas.

“Happy birthday, Clarisse,” Karen greeted the birthday celebrant who welcomed them. Her friend then introduced Chastity to her.

After Clarissa left them to welcome her other guests, Karen pulled her to the buffet table. But then her eyes immediately went to the makeshift stage where a band was currently playing.

She immediately noticed Indigo among the four guys on the stage.

“That’s the Flying Colors,” Karen said. Her best friend dipped a marshmallow in the chocolate fountain and stuffed it in her mouth. "Indigo's hand."

“That is Blue.” Karen pointed at the guy in front of the microphone. “He's the band's vocalist." She then pointed to the guy holding a guitar. "That one's Red. He's the lead guitarist of the band. Blue and Red are cousins.”

Karen's index finger went to the guy behind the drums. “That one's Grey. The band's drummer.” And of course, Indigo, your ex, is their bassist.”

“I want to breathe you in like you’re vapor. I want to be the one you remember. I want to feel your love like the weather, all over me, all over me…”

Blue's husky voice filled the venue. Now she understood why The Flying Colors were famous on their campus.

Chastity looked at the four guys on the stage. Starting with the vocalist Blue.

“Gosh, I'm really in love with them!"

Chastity heard the loud sigh from the group of girls near them. She glanced at them before her eyes went back to the man who owns her heart.

He was wearing black pants, a white long-sleeved that rolled up to his elbows, a purple necktie, and his signature diamond earring on his right ear.

His eyes were closed while he was playing the bass.

After three years, this was the first time she saw Indigo play an instrument again. The corner of her eyes heated up.

God. She missed him.

She stared at him for as long as it seems like forever. She watched him open his eyes. His chinky eyes scanned the crowd and that's when they met each other's eyes.

Chastity witnessed the shock on Indigo's face. He even stopped playing his instrument.

Chastity felt like her heart stopped beating for a second at that moment.

Indigo then shut his eyes and looked away. He never looked in her direction again.

“Thank you, everyone,” Blue said on the mic after the set ended. “Again, happy birthday, Clarisse. Enjoy the rest of the party.”

Indigo was the first one to go down on stage. Chastity remained standing in her position as her eyes followed Indigo.

“Chas, go,” Karen muttered beside her. “Go and talk to him.”

Chastity took a deep breath and nodded at her best friend. She immediately found Indigo's friend. But not Indigo.

She continued to look for him until she found him near the swimming pool of the house. He was alone.

He was standing near the pool while looking at the dark sky.

Before Chastity could go to him, a familiar girl went to Indigo. It was the same girl she saw with him in the bookstore.

"Hey, Kass," Indigo turned to the girl and smiled.

"Why are you alone here, Indigo?" the girl asked. "I've been looking for you."

Chastity bit her lower lip. She couldn't decide if she'd walk away or not.

Come on. You need to talk to him, Chas, she reminded herself.

Chastity took another deep breath before she started walking towards them.

She swallowed the lump in her throat and called his name. “Indigo.”

Both Indigo and the girl beside him looked at her.

“I-indigo, I...c-can we talk?”

Indigo stared at her with indifference. “I'm sorry, Miss. But I don't talk to strangers.”
