Ch. 2The Cruel Reality of Fate

“Why does it have to be like this?” denied Lyra who seemed to want to reject her destiny. She did not expect that the Moon Goddess would do that to her.
After meeting Kael, Lyra immediately returned to her home that night. Her body was trembling, not because she was afraid, but something had changed inside her. There was a strange power possessing her body.
In addition, Kael's aura still felt very strong and as if he was following her. She thought, isn't that a typical sign that the mate bond between them has started to activate?
"This must be a mistake. Yes, I'm absolutely sure of it," Lyra argued.
“But, what if that fate happens and will destroy the entire pack in Nightfall?” Lyra became prejudiced. Her mind soared imagining something that had yet to happen.

Lyra fell asleep in agitation and had a nightmare. She saw herself standing in a flowering forest. The full moon was shrouded in a soft light. A faint figure appeared before her slowly. Perhaps it is the incarnation of the Moon Goddess, she thought.
"The bond between you is set. Be prepared! It won't be easy when you accept it with open arms. Are you ready to lose everything to find something that is your true self?"
“What?”
Lyra woke up from her sleep, her heart racing. Cold sweat ran down her back and forehead. Good, it was just a dream, she said with a long sigh.
The next morning, Lyra opened the door to the house and saw that an omega, Kael's man, had come to tell her something. The man said that Alpha Kael had summoned her, telling her to immediately meet the pack leader at his residence.
“He is waiting for you,” the tattooed man said. “Hurry up!”
Lyra nodded slowly. "Alright. I know that."
Arriving at a private room in Alpha Kael's residence, Lyra was invited to sit on a long sofa. She turned her head somewhat awkwardly as she was hiding her awkwardness after last night's incident. She no longer dared to look at Kael's face. Although occasionally, Kael warned her with a cold, cynical look.
"Listen Evren! We are not a couple. Let's pretend last night never happened between us. Do you understand?" Kael again warned Lyra firmly, without preamble.
“Never happened between us?” repeated Lyra in a confused tone. “What do you mean?”
Kael was silent for a long time while turning his gaze towards Lyra. Until Lyra finally dared to say something, which she should have kept silent.
“You feel it too, don't you?” Lyra turned the question around.
Kael was silent for a long time while turning his gaze towards Lyra. Until Lyra finally dared to say something, which she should have kept silent.
Kael had to clear up the misunderstanding immediately. Then, he easily turned the situation around.
"Moon Goddess has made a mistake. I will not stain the blood of the pack by making a traitor's daughter Luna. Never," Kael emphasized. Lyra turned to him rather sarcastically and angrily.
"Don't tell anyone about this bond. Or I will kick you out. Uh, no. I might just kill you if that happens," he threatened Lyra.
“So, don't break the rules I've made! Understood?” he ordered.
Lyra was devastated by Kael's painful statement. The pain inside her chest was not just from rejection, but from the ties that were pulled but forcibly broken.
“Say something! Don't you just keep quiet!” scolded Kael. “You can talk now.”
"I have no more words to say. All your orders I will do," Lyra retorted.
“Good! I hope there will be no trouble between us in the future.”
“I assure you there won't be,” Lyra said before leaving Kael.
Lyra got up from her seat. The moment she turned her back to Kael, the Alpha let out words that hurt her heart again.
"Don't ever dream of becoming my partner Luna. You are nothing to me," Kael insulted.
“You don't deserve to be my mate. Remember that!”
Lyra's steps halted. The Alpha's words were too cruel for her. There was no longer any reason to linger in Kael's presence, so she quickly left the office.
"You have insulted me, Kael. I'm sure you'll regret it someday," Lyra muttered as she walked away.
Lyra left in a hurry. She could no longer contain her anger after coming face to face with Kael.
"Please, don't play me with this ridiculous fate! How can Kael and I be together? While all my family was destroyed by him. This is really driving me crazy," Lyra grumbled as she left Kael's residence and she was about to return to the forest.
After hearing all of Kael's insults, Lyra's body continued to tremble, her head bowed, and her face looked very sad. Shovia who accidentally noticed her guessed what was going on with her best friend. There must be something wrong.
“Lyra!” called Shovia. She walked quickly so that she could catch up with Lyra.
“Lyra, where are you going?” asked Shovia, as she approached her. “What's wrong?” she grabbed Lyra's hand as she looked at her best friend.
Lyra teared up, "I don't know. I just want to get out of here. He's already completely rejected me."
“He?” Shovia furrowed her brow. “You mean... Alpha Kael?”
Lyra became even more silent. Her silence only made Shovia conclude that her guess must be correct.
“What happened between you two?” asked Shovia more intensely.
“Why does fate always choose to hurt me first before showing its purpose?” said Lyra.
“What do you mean?” Shovia did not understand Lyra's words.
Lyra was speechless. She was struggling with how to explain to her best friend about the bond of destiny given to her and Kael.
"Don't tell me that you're in love with Kael. That's not true, right?" Shovia was even more frightened if her guess was right.
"I did like him once. But, now I hate him so much because that damn fate made me even more attached to him," Lyra said.
“Can you explain it to me, I really don't understand what you just said,” Shovia urged. She was already curious to hear Lyra's story.
“Fate says that Kael is my mate,” Lyra told Shovia.
“What? Are you sure about it?” Shovia was shocked to hear that.
“Are you going to be Luna, Kael's mate?” Shovia confirmed.
"Never. Before I became Luna's mate, he rejected me first. In fact, he threatened to kill me if that happened."
"How could he kill his own mate? Would he go against the destiny that the Moon Goddess has given you?"
“He rejected me because I am the daughter of a traitor as he accused me of being, in front of all of you.”
“Isn't he afraid that the Moon Goddess will be angry and curse our flock one day?
” “I don't want to think about it.”
“Then, what are your plans now?”
“I don't know.”
Shovia was silent for a long time. Without realizing it, Lyra had already left her.
"Lyra! Wait for me!" she called as she ran after Lyra.
Shovia couldn't catch up with Lyra. The girl had already disappeared from her sight.
Later that night in the pine forest, Lyra stood under the moonlight. She looked up at the sky and whispered in the silence of the night.
“If he doesn't want this bond, then I don't either and I will kill my own feelings before he kills me again with his insults.”
“Lyra Evren!” called someone behind her.
