Ch. 49Start to melt

“It seems we must go home,” Indra said after glancing at his watch. “You should get some rest.”
Dinda only nodded as she rose from her seat and walked side by side with her husband.
That night, the sky over the city was sprinkled with twinkling stars. They had just finished a delicious dinner. Throughout the meal, their mood was a mix of happiness and nervous excitement.
“I’m glad we could spend time together like this,” Indra said softly, his voice slightly awkward. Dinda simply smiled, noticing the faint blush on her husband’s cheeks.
“Me too. I feel comfortable with you,” she replied sincerely.
Their conversation continued, touching on many things—including emotions they had long kept hidden. They both began to realize that their bond wasn’t merely a formal arrangement. There was something deeper, something genuine and special growing between them.
On the way home, they remained mostly silent, each lost in their own thoughts. The awkwardness lingered, but so did a sense of relief. At last, they had been honest with each other.
When they arrived home, Indra quickly got out of the car and opened the door for Dinda, escorting her to her room. Just before parting, he gently took her hand, gazing deeply into her eyes.
“Get some sleep. You must be tired,” he whispered. Dinda felt warmth radiate from his hand.
“I don’t want our baby to feel anything negative because his mother isn’t well-rested.”
“Our baby?” Dinda narrowed her eyes and chuckled.
Indra nodded confidently. “Yes, what’s wrong?”
Dinda shook her head, smiling. “Nothing. I just—”
Cup!
Indra reflexively landed a kiss on her lips, cutting her off mid-sentence and leaving her wide-eyed with surprise.
The sudden kiss created an awkward, almost frozen atmosphere. Their hearts pounded, the tension palpable.
Indra took a deep breath, trying to steady himself.
“Have a good rest…” he said as he stood up and quickly left her room.
Dinda remained still, dazed, her mind swirling with thoughts. She was utterly stunned by the unexpected kiss. The only thing that showed how she felt was her face—flushed red like a boiled crab.

In the days that followed, Dinda and Indra grew closer. Though Indra was still a bit shy in expressing his emotions, he always made an effort to make Dinda feel special. Every morning, he would say something sweet, ask how she was doing, and make sure she was comfortable—always mindful of the baby growing inside her.
When Dinda started craving specific foods like mangoes or ice cream, Indra never hesitated to fulfill her wishes. Sometimes, he’d come home during lunch with her favorite meals, a cheerful smile on his face.
“Here’s your order. Anything else you’d like?” he’d ask, handing her the food.
“No, this is perfect. Thank you,” she replied warmly.
Dinda was deeply touched by Indra’s care. His quiet, simple gestures meant the world to her. They spent more and more time together—watching movies, strolling through the park, or simply talking about life.
“Is this what it feels like to be treated special by someone?” Dinda wondered. “I truly feel... happy.”
How could she not? In her previous relationship with Kevin—despite its length—Dinda rarely felt appreciated. Kevin only seemed to come around when he wanted something. That unhealthy relationship had led her into a deeply painful situation.
But now, all of that was in the past. Indra’s presence had changed everything.
As time passed, their connection deepened. Indra, who had once been reserved, began to open up more, growing confident in expressing his feelings. Dinda felt lucky to have him by her side—someone reliable, someone who truly cared.
They supported and completed one another. Every moment spent together only strengthened their bond. Not a day went by without Indra showing his affection, even in the simplest of ways.
Dinda’s life felt more meaningful with him. And Indra, too, was happy to see his wife smile. Despite their busy lives, they always found time for each other—nurturing their relationship so it could grow.
Until one day...
“My dear Indra! I finally get to see you again!” said Sonia, suddenly appearing and rushing to hug him. Indra swiftly dodged.
It was a typical morning, and Indra had just arrived at his office building when he noticed a woman standing with a determined look—Sonia, a figure from his past who never seemed to let go.
“Sonia? What are you doing here?” Indra asked, surprised but trying to stay calm.
Sonia stared at him with eyes full of anger and confusion.
“I should be the one asking that! You vanished that night without a word. No explanation at all,” she snapped.
Indra felt nervous and uneasy. He feared that this encounter might be discovered by Dinda—or worse, his respected father-in-law. He couldn’t let his past ruin the life he had built.
“I told you not to come see me again—especially not here,” he said in a firm but quiet tone.
“But you never explained anything! We need to talk,” Sonia insisted, her eyes burning with rejection.
Indra sighed heavily, trying to calm his nerves.
“Listen, Sonia. I’m sorry I left that night, but I don’t want to hurt my wife anymore. Please, don’t bother me again. And never show yourself in front of my wife or her family. I don’t want any trouble.”
He lowered his voice, but his words were sharp.
“As for our deal—if you need anything, just call me. Don’t ever come here like this again.”
“W-what?!” Sonia was stunned, her brows furrowing. “Have you lost your mind!?”
But Indra shook his head. “No, I’m thinking clearly. That’s why I’m saying this now.”
Sonia laughed bitterly at his resolute tone. She knew Indra well enough to recognize his seriousness.
“Ah, I see now! You disappear and then change the rules on me? So that’s it?”
Her jaw clenched tightly. She realized something had changed in him.
“Or wait—don’t tell me... You fell for that woman? A woman carrying someone else’s child!?” she scoffed without hesitation. “That’s it, isn’t it?”
“Yes,” Indra said loudly. “I did fall in love with her. And it’s none of your business anymore. So leave—and don’t come near me or anyone I care about again.”
Sonia froze, clearly seething. She wanted to lash out, but causing a scene would only get her dragged away by the nearby security guards who were already eyeing her suspiciously.
So she clenched her fists and swallowed her fury.
“Damn it… I’ll never forgive you,” she muttered under her breath.
