Ch. 46Sonia's greed

"Shit!"
Sonia threw a few things on the nightstand again in uncontrollable anger. She didn’t care about the noise she was making in the apartment.
“Argh! The more he gets involved with that woman, the more it feels like he’s lying to me!” she spat sarcastically. “Funny, isn’t it?”
How could she not be furious? Sonia was livid after being treated badly by Dinda—the same woman she once thought was weak. She couldn't understand how Dinda's attitude could change so drastically.
“Could she be starting to like Indra? My man?!” she thought, furrowing her brows.
The next second, Sonia shook her head forcefully, as if trying to shake off all the strange thoughts clouding her mind.
“No, no! There's no way she’d fall for a man who isn’t even the biological father of her son.”
She then rubbed her face roughly, trying to calm her racing heart that throbbed with suspicion.
For a moment, she was silent—sitting at the edge of the bed, trying to steady her breath.
“I need to find a way to stop their relationship from getting any deeper,” she muttered, subconsciously biting her lower lip. “Indra is mine forever!”
Instead of calming down, her thoughts grew more restless. Her mind drifted to the worst-case scenarios regarding Dinda and Indra—her ex-lover whom she could never forget.
A deep fear suddenly welled up—one she had never felt before. She couldn’t deny what she had seen with her own eyes: how close they were getting.
“Think, Sonia! Don’t let her take what was yours from the very beginning!”
She hit her own head as if to force herself to come up with something, even though her frantic mind couldn't think clearly.
Moments later, she suddenly stood up as if struck by an idea.
“Ah! Or maybe... I’ll just confront them directly!?”

“Thank you for your hard work—have a great day!”
“Yes, sir! Thank you…”
One by one, the staff and employees began to leave the meeting room after several hours. Unlike Indra, who remained behind, leaning back and turning his chair to face the glass wall overlooking the afternoon cityscape.
He let out a long sigh, his eyes staring blankly even as his thoughts remained in disarray.
“What is she doing right now?” he murmured with a sad expression. “Is she really mad at me?”
His mind drifted back to the moment before the meeting—right when Dinda showed up during his conversation with Sonia. He could clearly remember the look on her face when she saw her husband talking to his ex.
Indra suddenly furrowed his brows, his breath caught in his throat.
“Haa… Of course she’s upset. I made her uncomfortable today.”
He felt like the cruelest man for thinking about someone else’s request while unintentionally hurting his wife and causing a misunderstanding.
“I have to apologize to her. I never meant for any of this to happen,” he said, pulling his phone from his pocket. “But first, I need to make sure of something.”
He quickly opened his phone and began typing a long message. His expression turned serious, as if what he was saying was of great importance—though it was unclear who the message was for.
“Done!” His smile grew as the message was sent. “Now I can focus on Dinda.”
He put the phone back into his pocket and left the room to return to his personal office and continue working.
Along the way, Indra tried to calm himself and build up the courage to face Dinda when he got home.
“Should I get her a gift? But what does she even like?” he muttered, tapping his fingers against the table.
Indra was clearly trying to think of something to make up to his wife, but despite the effort, nothing came to mind.
Moments later, he let out another deep sigh. “Turns out… I don’t really know her that well. I don’t know her at all.”
He closed his eyes briefly until a phone vibration startled him. He pulled it out and frowned when he saw the name on the screen.
“Ck! Didn’t I already say something? Why are they still calling!?”
Instead of picking it up, he let the phone ring out. But it didn’t stop—his phone kept ringing, disrupting his concentration.
“Oh my God! Seriously!?”
Without another thought, Indra turned off the phone and placed it in his desk drawer. He didn’t want to think about anything else—only about his wife’s comfort.
“Is something wrong?” asked Sofyan, noticing his superior’s expression.
Indra shook his head. “Nothing.”
Sofyan studied him for a moment but decided not to ask further. After all, they still had unfinished work to prioritize.
While Indra was busy with his work and thoughts of Dinda, elsewhere, a pregnant woman sat quietly, clutching her phone tightly.
It was unclear how many times she had checked it—still no notifications. Her heart began to grow anxious, strange thoughts creeping in.
“This is weird… He should be apologizing to me after what happened. But this? Not even one message?”
She scoffed in frustration, still gripping the phone tightly, as if refusing to let go. Then she turned and walked to the apartment balcony, gazing at the twilight sky.
“It’s already time to come home, and he hasn’t said a word.”
She took a deep breath. “Why am I the one who keeps hoping for something from him!? He’s probably with that woman.”
Speculation about her husband began flooding her mind, confusing her even more. Though she tried to push it away, the thoughts were too loud, overpowering her reason.
As the sun set and the sky darkened, Dinda remained on the balcony. The cold air clung to her body, piercing into her bones.
She stayed there in her anxious silence, until finally...
Click!
“I’m home!”
Dinda had left the apartment door unlocked. The moment it opened, she immediately heard that familiar baritone voice. Just those two words were enough to melt away hours of anxiety, replacing it with a wave of relief.
But the smile that had just begun to bloom quickly vanished.
“Ck! I’ll make him pay for this!”
