Anya was happy to give Mrs. Roseanne a convincing answer. She left the room feeling relieved and calm.
After the meeting, Xav asked her to come to his room on the third floor. Without thinking, she immediately went there and opened the door without knocking. How surprised Anya was to see Mr. Adolfo - her future father-in-law - in the room.
The son and father got into another argument. Xav's collar was being firmly gripped by Adolfo, but when he realized that Anya was now standing in front of the room, Adolfo immediately released his grip.
"If you dare to tell grandmother the truth, I will also tell her about how you behaved in that brothel." Xavier said the threat in a very calm voice. As calm as water with deadly depths.
Adolfo's neck veins were visibly enlarged, it was obvious that he was now holding back the anger in his chest. Without saying anything else, the man left his son's room, and paid no attention to the girl who was now standing there staring at the scene.
"Come in!" ordered Xavier as he sat on the edge of the bed.
"How did the interview go?" he asked half-jokingly.
Anya stared silently into those copper-colored eyes, a flash of sorrow evident even as the man's lips forced a smile.
"Does this always happen to you?" Anya asked matter-of-factly.
"What kind of things are you talking about?"
"The quarrels, the arguments that happen between you and your father," she explained.
Xav looked at Anya for a moment, he was silent and didn't immediately respond.
Anya felt guilty for asking Xav that question.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to interfere with you. Let's just say I never asked you that-"
"My father hates me." Xavier suddenly let out a word that made Anya tilt her head and squint. Staring at the man in confusion.
"Do you know what it's like to live with someone who hates you?" Xav asked Anya.
"I guess I do. Because my grandmother and my father hated me too. I don't know if they ever said it outright to me, but their demeanor said it out loud."
Xav stood up and approached Anya. He smiled and said, "Are we meant to be together?"
"You are hated by your family, and I am hated by all my family members. That's not a coincidence, is it?"
The girl in front of Xav did not reply with a single word. The girl knitted her eyebrows together, slowly her hand reached out and touched Xavier's forehead.
"I think you have a fever, do you have a thermometer?"
Xav moved Anya's hand away from his head.
"Damn!" he cursed then turned around and sat back on the edge of the bed.
"Your acting isn't good enough, young master. You can't fool me with those cute, little words!" Anya sneered while girdling her loins.
"I've done my first task well, so what will you pay me?" asked Anya, not wanting to waste the opportunity to negotiate.
"It turns out you're a sucker too," Xav chuckled.
"I agreed to your offer for business and money. Then what else do you expect from me?" Anya countered.
"Oh yeah, what did my grandmother ask you?" Xav looked curious.
"Do you want to know everything? Or just the important ones?"
"Just tell me the important ones, I'm not interested in the sad story you told my grandmother."
"Before that, allow me to take off these high heels. It hurts, I'm not used to wearing them."
"You'll have to get used to it from now on," the man babbled.
Anya didn't care about Xav's ramblings, she quickly removed the skin-colored shoes from her tiny feet. She had been in a lot of pain since before.
She then sat on a wooden chair in front of Xavier's study table.
"Your grandmother asked me about my dream wedding," Anya whispered softly.
"So, what did you answer?"
"I said that I don't like parties, so I asked for a simple one."
"Good girl," Xav ruffled Anya's hair anxiously.
"Don't touch me!" Anya shook off Xav's hand.
"And what else?" asked Xav again, this time bringing his face closer to Anya. Until the scent of perfume that emanated from his body could be smelled by Anya's sense of smell.
"Nothing, that's all," said Anya lying. She didn't want to tell the ending, she didn't want Xav to get the wrong idea. For Anya, the ending didn't need to be told to anyone.
"Okay, then, tell me what you want. I mean how much do you want?"
Anya blinked her eyes a few times. This was her first time seeing Xavier's copper-colored eyes this close.
"Take me to my grandmother's house," Anya said without taking her eyes off Xavier's amber irises.
"Alright, we'll make the trip, just the two of us."
"What? Two of us? You're not planning something with me, are you?" Anya squealed, then stepped back a few centimeters.
"Of course not silly girl, I'm going to rest already. Now go back to your room," Xav concluded and laid down casually.
Anya scowled, then stood up and turned to leave. She walked to the door of her room to open it.
"Your room is now on the second floor, not in the maid's room anymore. Remember that!" Xav shouted, Anya turned her head briefly to the man who had now closed his eyes. Without answering anything, the girl left Xavier's room.
***
Anya went down to the second floor. As Xavier had said, one of the rooms on the second floor was now hers. Of course she was happy to occupy it, when else could she sleep in a super comfortable room and not have to worry about rent?
Anya's feet had just stepped on the second floor when she bumped into Angel, Em, and Shelina. The three girls who were still wearing their maid uniforms looked at her with their faces half down.
"K-we just cleaned your room, Miss. T-young master told us to," Em said in a stammered voice.
"Thank you." Anya replied in a straightforward voice, then immediately opened the door to her room.
"T-wait a minute, Miss..." Shelina's voice prevented Anya from continuing. The girl turned around, and looked at the blonde girl who had berated her earlier that morning.
Shelina had no idea that Anya would be Xavier's future wife. This morning, when the big lady told her to call Xavier, she told Anya instead. Not only was she rude, but Shelina also threatened Anya. She thought Anya had wandered into the room on the second floor, and accused Anya of stealing the Dmitry family's dress. Shelina almost pushed Anya down the stairs if Xavier hadn't come immediately and stopped the sneaky girl.
Anya smiled sarcastically, then bent down and peered at Shelina's face, who was now looking down. Not daring to raise her neck, she looked directly at Anya.
"What's wrong, Shelina? Do you have something to say?"
"I-I'm sorry Miss..."
