Ch. 13Chapter 12

Blaire scans her surroundings and realizes they're standing in a dense forest. The silence is deafening, and a heavy atmosphere envelops the entire area. This place is genuinely scary, but Blaire is different—even if you look into her eyes, you won't see any reaction, making you wonder if she's used to it.

"Be careful. Stay behind me," Chaos whispers softly to her. She ignores him and walks alongside him. She dislikes hiding behind the man and just staring when problems arise.

"Tss, stubborn," the man mutters, but she doesn't pay attention to him.

They walk cautiously, feeling their surroundings. They hear rustling, but they don't flinch and continue walking.

They become alert when they hear an explosion. Blaire gasps as Chaos immediately pulls her towards a tree. They hide, and their eyes meet. The man looks away first and slowly peeks from their hiding spot. Blaire also peeks because she's annoyed with what's happening. She hates being suddenly dragged into hiding because it's cowardly to her.

They see a battle happening ahead. A man and a woman are fighting a large worm-like creature the size of a human. The creature is repulsive with its skin and teeth protruding from its mouth. It also has four moving spikes on its head. It's a Mongolian worm, and its saliva, mixed with electricity, is highly dangerous, capable of slowly killing its victims.

Blaire notices that the two are struggling, especially the woman. The man releases a water ball and throws it at the enemy, but it doesn't affect the creature, and Blaire feels it grow even stronger. Based on her knowledge, worms also favor water or moist soil, so they won't be found in dry land.

The woman creates a tornado and controls it towards the enemy. The creature is caught in the attack, so the two relax. However, seconds later, they're surprised to see the tornado returning towards them with electricity. They couldn't escape in time, and the two are swept away. The tornado strengthens with electricity until it explodes.

Blaire is surprised that the enemy didn't die and landed safely after the tornado exploded. Unfortunately, she hasn't seen the two since then, and she's sure they've returned to the arena. She wonders why they disappeared from the game so quickly. Perhaps they've been fighting all along.

Her eyes widen when she accidentally steps on a branch, causing noise. "Shit," her companion mutters softly. She immediately looks at the enemy. She sees it also looking in their direction.

"Fuck! We need to fight," the man says urgently. Blaire nods, and they quickly leave their hiding spot.

They're greeted by the creature's electricity saliva, but they manage to dodge it. Chaos throws a fireball at it and follows up with a kick to the tree. He flips and does a backflip, then lands behind the enemy where he threw the fireball. The Mongolian worm rolls because its body is engulfed in flames, and they hear its cries.

Chaos quickly creates a fire sword and decisively finishes off the creature. The worm stops moving, possibly a sign that it's dead, so Chaos walks back to Blaire.

"It's still alive," Blaire frowns, looking behind the man. Chaos also furrows his brow and turns around.

They see the giant worm slowly moving and gradually regrowing half of its body. Its burnt skin has also healed, and it's alive again.

Blaire immediately thinks of a way to kill the enemy. She looks at Chaos, who also looks at her. "I'll freeze it, and then you hit it with a fireball because I think that's the only way," she says, even though the man is confused, he nods.

Blaire focuses, feeling the energy flowing within her. She's about to release her power, but it's immediately intercepted by the creature's power as the ice spreads over its body, completely covering it.

"Now!" Blaire orders. Chaos quickly throws a fireball at the enemy. They hear its cries and see the ice gradually melting from the heat of the fire. Blaire is sure the melted ice turns into hot water because of the fire, so it's scalding the creature, causing it to writhe in pain. Blaire teleports behind it. She stands up straight and focuses.

Chaos slightly flinches when lightning strikes suddenly. He's surprised by what he sees in the girl because her eyes have turned white, surrounded by lightning bolts. The wind picks up, and Chaos looks up at the sky, seeing it darken as if a storm is coming. He looks back at the girl after a while.

Blaire controls the lightning and directs it towards the enemy, causing it to howl in agony and thrash about. She senses its weakening because more lightning surrounds it.

Blaire thought of lightning as the way to defeat the enemy because it's also electricity. Natural electricity, coupled with hot water against the electricity coming from the Mongolian's body—there's a great chance that her attack will be fatal.

Indeed, she was not mistaken as the creature's body exploded shortly afterward. She'll admit she was surprised because she managed to control the lightning. All she remembers is that it was the method she thought of, so that's what she did. Her eyes returned to their lilac color as she calmed down, coinciding with the disappearance of the lightning and the calmness of the sky.

Though Chaos is still confused and surprised by what he witnessed, he chooses to ignore them. He approaches the girl and quickly checks if she's injured.

"What are you doing?" the girl asks him, puzzled, so he looks into her lilac eyes.

"I’m just worried," he responds with concern.

"I'm okay," Blaire replies emotionlessly.

"Good. Okay, let’s go," Chaos says softly, and they start walking.

They're quiet, just feeling their surroundings. They sense a strange presence, so they become alert. Blaire looks at Chaos, and he furrows his brow because he seems to see something beautiful. She follows his gaze and sees an incredibly beautiful woman. She has long lilac hair that reaches her knees, with no clothes and a stunning figure. Her skin is fair, but her feet are backward.

She looks back at Chaos with curiosity. Suddenly, she feels annoyed with him because he doesn't even blink. Blaire restrains her irritation when she feels that something's wrong with him. She blocks his view with her hand. She raises and lowers it, confirming that something's indeed wrong with him. It's as if he's been hypnotized by the woman.

"That woman is called La Ciguapa."

Blaire immediately looks around because she hears a voice in her mind, but she doesn't see anyone.

"La Ciguapa? What kind of woman is that?" she asks telepathically. Despite her doubts, she still asks the voice of the woman who entered her mind.

"The enchanted woman with backward feet who lures men into the woods."

Blaire furrows her brow even more at the response.

How will I defeat her? That's the big question Blaire asks herself in her mind.

"Think carefully, Blaire, while there's still time because she might get Chaos."

"But the council controls the creatures here," Blaire replies, confused.

"That's what they think, Blaire, so hurry before it's too late," the voice urges her.

"How?" she asks, unsure how to defeat her.

"Match her inherent power." She's confused because she didn't see the woman retaliate with power.

"Who are you?" she asks instead.

"Aphrodite."

Her mouth falls open because she might be talking to a goddess, but she's not sure. The voice and the name are familiar.

She snaps back to reality when she feels Chaos move. She immediately looks at him as he walks towards the mysterious woman. He walks as if lifeless.

Her eyes widen when she sees a cliff ahead. Blaire quickly steps in front of the man and glares at the woman before throwing an ice ball at her. She seems to cry because of the pain.

Blaire gasps when her body heats up. She looks at the man. She's surprised to see a large fireball behind her.

"Four! Wake up!" Blaire shouts at the man, but he seems to hear nothing. She feels the heat on her body as the fireball finally lands on her.

Is he going to kill me? That's Blaire's question in her mind.

She thought she'd burn, but it didn't happen, and she was surprised when her body slowly consumed the fire. She tilts her head to avoid getting lost in the present. She's thankful her uniform didn't burn.
