Chapter Five
Author’s Pov
“Woah, it looks like your wounds are healing real quick.“ Ethan said he was sitting next to me on the floor in the library.
“Yeah, they are.“ Tina answered, touching her forehead slightly to check for any pain.
“I still can’t understand why you did not just turn on the lights before running down the stairs.“ He said he was looking at his mobile phone and playing a game.
“Whatever, Ethan, you have laughed at me enough.“ I said, faking annoyance, but he only chuckled some more.
"Yeah, I am guilty as charged for that.“ He answered, still on his phone.
I kept going through my books until I heard the bell ring before packing my books and making my way to the basketball court.
The basketball team had a match with another school today, so we had a long break today to do whatever we wanted.
Me and Ethan made our way inside the court before finding a seat and sitting next to each other.
“I heard the other teas are very good, but I am sure we are going to beat them.“ Ethan said it confidently.
“How do you know?“ I asked while popping one of the biscuit sticks Ethan had given me earlier into my mouth.
“Girl, have you never come to watch any of these guys basketball training before?“ He asked, looking at me.
“No,“ I answered, shaking my head.
“What, really?“ He asked again, looking at me like I had grown three heads or something.
“Woah, you really are a different specimen of female, ain’t you?“ He mocked before turning his attention back to the game, which was about to start.
“Is it just me, or is Ryan really looking at us?“ Ethan asked, getting my attention as I put my head up from the mobile phone grandpa got for me late last week, giving my attention to the place Ethan was pointing at.
I saw Ryan looking at us, or should I say at me specifically, causing his eyes to be trained on mine, not willing to shift anytime soon.
“Oh my God, girl Ryan is looking at us.“ Some girls at our backs screamed, breaking out of my thoughts and making me end whatever staring contest was going on between me and that guy named Ryan.
“What is the problem with me in any way?“ I turned to ask Ethan.
“It might be two things, you know?“ Ethan said, looking at me as I waited for him to continue.
“Either he wants to play with you, like, you know, get in your pants, or he likes you.“ He finished smiling, making me hit on his back.
“Language, Ethan, you don’t have to be too blunt.“ I said, while he laughed.
“Common, don’t you just look so cute with that innocence of yours?“ He said he was pinching my cheeks.
I smiled at him, sticking my tongue out at him.
The game started shortly, and our team had won twice now, with Ryan being the one to score the first.
“I told you our team was good.“ Ethan said his eyes were trained on the match.
“Yeah, but the other team is trying to,“ I said now, clearly interested myself in it.
Yeah, yeah,"  he answered.
“Hey, I want to go to the bathroom. Come follow me, please. The hall would be very empty and creepy.“ He said he was giving me his baby face look.
“You want me to follow you into the bathroom?“ I asked, faking innocence.
“Fuck you, you know what I mean.“ He said to stand up, while I did the same.
“Language, Ethan.“ I scolded him while following him.
"I am not like this true; it must be all these hanging out with you; it’s making me curse a lot.“ He replied, putting his hand on his heart, faking seriousness.
"I am glad I could have a great influence on you then.“ I said. We both burst into laughter.
Our laughter died down when we heard the whistle blow and the groaning noise from our school, just as we were about to leave the court.
"It looks like the other school won another one.“ I said, looking at the scoreboard placed on top of the court.
“Yap, we are now tied.“ He said, as the bored saw showed 5–5 now.
“Let’s go. I really need to pee.“ He said he was getting my attention back.
“Hmmm,“ I answered, my eyes leaving the scoreboard but stopping as they made contact with Ryan’s, as he was already glaring at me.
What did I do now? I couldn’t help but wonder.
“Let’s go,“ Ethan whined, dragging me out.
I waited patiently on the other side of the bathroom, waiting for Ethan to finish his business so we could get back, but my mind drifted back to the look Ryan was giving me back at the court.
What could have been possible down?
It’s not that I care, but I really hated trouble or attention, but right now it seems like I might have gotten both by putting myself in trouble with the popular kid and now getting his attention.
“Would you look at it, another cutie? Woah, Regina is blessed with cute girls, dude.“ A guy I don’t know said he was standing in front of me, smiling.
I used my eyes to do a quick scan. Seeing he was putting on a basketball outfit from the other team means he was from their school, which also means trouble.
So I smiled slightly at him while praying for Ethan to come out quickly. It seems like God was on my side, as Ethan came out the moment I finished my prayer.
“Hey….“ Ethan said, looking at me, trying to see if he should give me space, but I immediately shook my head and used my eyes to say he should come get me out of here.
“Hey, isn’t Caleb dude, man?“ The guy who was talking to me before turned to talk to his friend, pointing at Ethan.
“That’s rude; I have a name, you know.“ Ethan said, glaring, before taking my hand and pulling me out of there.
“ Hey! I wasn’t down talking to you.“ The guy shouted again.
“Walk fast, Ethan.“ I said, and we both picked up our pace, making it back to the court in no time.
"I am sorry about that; you must have been so uncomfortable.“ Ethan said, looking at me with sorry eyes.
“Why are you sorry? It’s not like you sent them to me, or is it?“ I said, smiling at him to ease him up.
“Yeah, but if I had not insisted that you follow me, then they wouldn’t have met you. I hope they did not do anything to you. He asked.
“No why?“ I was confused as to what they could really do.
“Beside, we are inside the school; what would they possibly do?“ I asked.
“Yeah, right, stay clear. Some of those boys are plain evil; if you see them coming at you, just run. Don’t even care where you are or what they can do. Okay? “ Ethan said it seriously, making me nervous, but I nodded, my head in response scared to ask for the full details.
After that, we continued watching the match in peace, with Ryan glancing at me on occasion and me avoiding his stares, while the girls at the back kept squealing, saying he was looking at them.
‘Wow, what a wonderful match,‘ the presenter said as everyone clapped their hands.
‘ We have the red block from Regina High School having 7 points, while the blood shape from Scott High School has 6 points, making the Red Blocks the winner of today's match..'‘ The presenter kept talking, but my mind blanked out as I saw Ryan walking in my direction.
“Ahhhhh, oh my God, Ethan is coming this way; how do I look?" The girl behind her screamed, asking her friends.
I rolled my eyes and immediately turned to look at Ethan.
“ Ethan I don’t have a good feeling about whatever is about to happen in a few minutes; please let’s get out of here.“ I said I was not caring or wanting to know if Ryan was coming towards me or the girls behind me; I just wanted to leave.
“What feelings and about what?“ Ethan asked, quickly gathering his things.
I discreetly pointed my hand towards Ryan, who was trying his best to get through the crowd, his eyes still on me.
“Yeah, I noticed he was looking at you throughout. Are you sure nothing happened between you two?“ Ethan asked while trying to get through the crowd so we could pass the other way.
“Nothing at all except the time he returns my notebook; we haven’t really spoken.“ I said I was trying my best to keep myself from the crowd pushing.
We were about to make it to the door when my voice screamed.
“STOP!!!"
We both turn to see Ryan looking at us. He shoves the crowd away before making his way towards us.
Pushing Ethan away from me, he grabbed my hand while I struggled to create a little space between us.
“What are you doing, Ryan?“ Rita asked, pushing herself through the crowd and stopping in front of us.
Ryan raised his eyebrows at her before turning to look at me, while I shook my head silently, begging him not to.
"I am seeing my girlfriend after winning a match; why is that a problem?“ He asked with his eyes trained on me while I shut mine tightly, taking in the being of my doom.
