Ch. 4The search

Maya and Roland scanned through the room to search for their mates, trying very hard to fight their wolves from ripping out of their skins.

"It's her. It's really her." Roland's wolf howled inside with joy. Roland groaned at the restless beast in him.

"We welcome you to Rise City Alpha Roland." The host announced and everyone looked in his direction. No one expected Alpha Roland, the CEO of Moonlight industry to be there that afternoon.

"I should have dressed a bit more appealing."

"Oh my goodness, he even looks hotter than how the TV shows him."

"Oh my goodness, am I dreaming? He looks like a Greek god."

Roland's eyes finally settled on Maya who was looking at him with a blank expression. Truth was, inside her, her wolf and she squealed with joy as they communicated with each other.

"I can't believe our mate is so hot." Her wolf said happily.

"Tell me about it. Oh damn, he's freaking hot." Maya replied seductively in her head.

"Let's go meet him…"

"Hold your horses there Silver." Maya stopped her wolf who she named Silver. "A whole Alpha like me can't be the first person to approach a man and guess what? In an open space like this? That's social suicide."

"It wouldn't be a social suicide because the most eligible bachelor and spinster finally found their mates and guess what, they are each other's mates." Silver whimpered as she jumped up and down.

"Come on Maya, just this once, let's go this once. The media would go crazy and finally, you can be left alone by those creepy men." Silver said in a disgusted voice.

Roland just stared at her and for the first time in his life, he and his wolf were intimidated. Still keeping his eyes on her like she might disappear any minute if he doesn't.

Roland was assigned the table right before her and it gave both of them a better chance to stare at each other.

Their beta seemed to notice this and just focused on the meeting instead of them.

Roland kept his cold look on before looking away after battling with his wolf but her stare was just too intimidating.

"Looks like the boss finally got tamed. How does it feel there uh?" His wolf, Onyx burst mocked as he looked at Roland go quiet and be intimidated for once, and by who? His mate. It was so hilarious.

Even the scariest beast couldn't intimidate him and yet his mate did with just her stare.

"Can you see if you can mind linking Maya…"

"I will not do that Silver. It's literally like I'm chasing after him which is so not true. I am not chasing after anyone even if he is my mate. He has to approach me first." Maya humphed as she tried to focus on the host but Roland was just too handsome for her to pass by.

"So you'll sit there waiting for him to come over to meet you?" Silver asked and Maya hummed. "That's ridiculous. With the look of things, he'll act like a prideful alpha and luckily you are the same."

"You're not getting the point here Silver…"

"I get, that he'll reject you before the whole paparazzi and he'll say he's in love with another person and it's not a must to follow the Moon goddess's plans." Silver pointed out.

"Exactly." Maya sighed before resting her back and looking at the screen when she noticed her attention was called by the host.

"Excuse me, Alpha Maya, we'd like to speak with you about your company." The host repeated her questions.

"Well, sure." Maya replied as she was given a microphone. "The whole room went silent as she started addressing everyone."

"Well, we have improved lots of things since the last time we launched a design. And the newest pending project will be launched in the coming movie." Maya said and everyone looked surprised.

"That's a pretty nice deal, Alpha Maya." The host commended as Maya dropped the microphone.

"We will take a quick break and continue with the meeting. Thank you." The host bowed and they clapped as she walked off the stage.

Waiters and waitresses soon started walking into the restaurant with plates on their trays. They served each table and soon the waitress served Maya.

She looked down at the food for a minute before Phoebe stood up. "I need to have a word with you, sir." Phoebe called the manager.

Roland could hear everything they were saying clearly despite the chatters and all due to his enhanced hearing.

"I sent a message to specifically make a portion of food without sesame oil in it. All the dishes served to Alpha have sesame in them and you know she's allergic to sesame oil." Phoebe complained and the manager gasped in shock.

"I'm so sorry Alpha Maya. Please pardon our server. She just got here and she served the wrong dishes." The manager apologized.

"Do you know how costly her mistake would have been? Would you like me to tell Alpha Raymond about this…"

"It's okay Phoebe. It's not worth it." Maya sighed.

"We're so sorry about this Alpha, we'll make the changes immediately." The manager bowed apologetically before leaving.

Roland stared back at Maya who glanced at him before looking away.

"I heard the Alpha was sassy but I didn't expect it to be like this." Onyx said and Roland hummed.

"She's allergic to sesame oil." Roland said to Onyx.

"It can't be her. It might be her wolf. Some wolves dislike seasons on their food, meats especially." Onyx pointed out.

The meeting soon ended and everyone walked out of the restaurant chatting with one another.

"This is it, Roland, should we approach her?" Onyx asked as he stepped out of the restaurant, looking at Maya who was talking to Phoebe.

"We can't." Roland said as he watched her converse with another lady.

"Why is that?"

"I don't think she's actually feeling the mate bond. If she is, she should have at least approached us for a business conversation."

"Will you be returning to the pack house or office?" Phoebe asked as she got into the car next to Maya who was still looking outside.

"Office. I still have some things to take care of." Maya said before resting her back and sitting comfortably.

"I noticed you were a bit distracted at the meeting. Is there anything wrong?" Phoebe asked.

"No, nothing is wrong." Maya replied as she took her tab out of the seat before her. "I shouldn't have been there. Actually, those people were giving me a headache."

Maya didn't mean that and Phoebe knew well but she was sure there was a reason for Maya lying because she was so terrible at lying.

"So, any comment about Alpha Roland attending the meeting?" Phoebe raised her head to see Maya's expression and it did show she was lying too.

"Well, there's nothing special about it. He's just another man who women swoon over and he isn't even that handsome…"

"You've officially gotten the badge of the worst liar ever." Phoebe sighed as she faced her iPad and Maya's face flushed.

"You should improve your lying skills." Silver said, making fun of Maya.

"You're as bad as I am at lying so shut it." Maya rolled her eyes before focusing on the work before her.

The car soon stopped at the company and they both got out of the car.

Maya returned to her office and Phoebe did the same, although her job wasn't really about the company. It was about the whole city.

Maya walked to her chair and hung her suit jacket on the backrest. She sat on the edge of her table as she looked down at the city with a smile on her face.

A knock on the door distracted her and she permitted the person in.

A lady with a small figure, blonde long hair, and big glasses walked into the office with some files and a small polythene bag with her.

"Aria, reduce the workload." Maya said as the lady, Aria walked towards her with a bright smile.

"Good afternoon Alpha Maya." She replied as she dropped the file on the table and handed the bag over to Maya. "Phoebe asked me to get you some Chinese noodles and these are the files that came in when you left."

Aria was Jerry's mate. Although Maya didn't like the idea of her working as the messenger, she loved her job so Maya didn't complain anymore about her position.

"I have good news for you too." She half squealed as Maya sat behind her desk, pulling the packaged noodles open.

"What is it?" She asked as she started eating. She didn't later take any food during the meeting and now she was starving.

"I'm pregnant." Aria squealed and Maya was stunned.

"Oh my goodness I'm gonna be an aunt." Maya beamed. "Have you told Jerry yet?"

"No, I haven't. I was a bit sick this morning so I went to see the doctor and he told me the news. Jerry is at the border." Aria replied and Maya stood up to walk to her.

"I'm so glad to hear the good news Aria. I'm sure you'll be a good mother just like you've been a lovely wife." Maya hugged her gently before letting go.

"Thank you, Alpha Maya. You're the best leader one could ask for." Aria smiled happily.

"You should go get some rest. Don't stress yourself too much."

After Aria left, Peter walked in with a bored expression on. "Fought with your mate?" Maya asked and he sighed.

"Phoebe isn't the easiest person to deal with." Peter rolled his eyes as he spread a large blue piece of paper before her. "Project 23 sample or do you need some changes in it?"

Maya looked at the design for a few minutes as she dropped the chopsticks with her after eating the noodles left in the cup.

"I'll see the designing team myself." Maya stood up and Peter wrapped up the design.

Maya and Peter walked out of the office and got into her private elevator. Immediately the elevator stopped and they stepped into the design department, the workers started focusing on their work.

They all knew Maya wasn't the nicest person when it comes to doing things wrong or in a way she isn't satisfied.

"Justin this isn't just any design and you know that." Maya said as she walked into the head of the department's office.

"Alpha Maya." He hurriedly stood up and the woman sitting on his lap did the same. "You should have sent for me instead."

"Oh my manners, sorry for interrupting but Justin, you're at work." Maya frowned and he bowed his head in apology as the woman walked out

Maya sat on one of the chairs before him with crossed arms as Peter laid out the design on the table.

"Thus us just like all normal designs Justin. I need a design that'll wow everybody. The bag design isn't appealing enough, even the shoes or the clothes. I was thinking you design beautiful jewelry and I make it from one of the rarest gems." Maya laid out her idea. "And a matching dress."

"Where will we find the gem and which one of them?" Justin asked.

"That's not your job to worry about so just focus on the designs. The work must win the award this year. And I don't want you to submit it after a few hours. Take your time and draw out the designs." Maya stood up and Justin did the same before Maya walked out of his office.

All the workers looked up at Maya as she walked into the elevator. Her presence alone was intimidating despite her being sweet.

"Attention everyone, we're redesigning project 23." Justin walked out of his office before slamming the papers on the main table.

"You and Phoebe can leave before me today. I still have lots of work to deal with and it might take a while." Maya said as they walked into her office.

"Are you sure Alpha?" Peter asked.

"Yes. Send the bodyguards off too. I won't be needing them."
