Ch. 77: The Mountain

ARO LEANING HIS back like a king to his chair where an alpha is the only one who can sit. He’s wearing nothing from his top which gives access to anyone to see his fit masculine body as if it was carved by the best sculptor. The different scars made by claws are visible on his skin. This will prove that he didn’t climb up to where he is easily.
To anyone who doubts his power and capability, he is ready to prove his worth one more time, so his people will be safe. That is his goal. Nothing more.
He always has an expression of icy boredom looking at his people, but they don’t say anything because they know this is how he is.
Aro couldn’t help but clench his jaw whenever he could hear a loud howl coming from his hunting pack. He couldn’t imagine but to think of helping the hunters to find the trespasser who had come to their territory right now.
Just like the other male werewolf from his pack, he wore these faded jeans from the bottom while spreading both of his legs comfortably. He turned his gaze to the werewolf from his left while continuing combing the purr.
There were instances when the werewolves couldn’t go back to their human form after their first transformation. That's why he took them under his wing until they learned how to do it properly and easily without anyone's guidance.
The first transformation is always the hardest for the werewolves. They will feel this terrible pain as if their bones all over their body are breaking apart. Some of them ended up being scared, which made it more difficult for them to return to their human form.
As an alpha, Aro must look out for his pack, no matter who it is.
Now that there is a vampire who enters their territory, he needs to check up on the well-being of everyone. Especially for the cubs who can't protect themselves from danger.
Aro couldn’t help but smirk. His raspy and alluring voice can be heard by his people from a short distance. He doesn't have any doubt about his pack. They knew what they were doing even without his help.
He secretly observed all the members of his pack that were present in the hall. They have different businesses in different directions.
Some are just enjoying the day by drinking alcohol in their big wooden cup. Some are talking about something important that he can hear from his place. While the others are on the point of competing to measure their strength, which is important to the werewolf because their pride is always on the line.
His eyes roamed around the place. Their territory is one of the best places compared to the other packs because all the things that they need are there.
They were surrounded by trees because they were at the top of the mountain. To the north, there were falls, and the forest had animals that they could hunt anytime they wanted to.
Their space mansion has this maroon, black, wood, and industrial kind of design that gives this place a mysterious kind of vibe because of the light that they were using. Some of the chandelier bulbs are already out, that's why the place is just good enough for him to see everyone in the hall.
“They still don’t have any news,” one of his trusted friends said. “Do you think he is the one that you were looking for?”
Aro didn’t answer the question because he didn't know either. He still doesn't have any clue who his enemy is this time.
Ten years ago, Aro woke up inside the coffin with no memory from his past. That's why he strives more than others so that he can continue the flow of his life even if it is hard.
When he woke up inside the coffin, an old woman and a man claimed that they were his parents and the leader of the pack when he fell asleep for a long time. No one can explain how it happened. All they knew was the powerful witch would assign him to the special task. When the time is right, he will know what it is.
Just by thinking about it, Aro is the only sane person who will accept immediately without looking for any proof that what they are saying is true because he has to? Does he really have to?
For him, it will be easy if he just accepts it as long as he does not put himself in danger. Also, he will not be stupid enough to follow anyone if he doesn't agree with it.
If there is one thing that he is sure of from his past, it is that he despises vampires, especially Valmir. His goal for a long time was to eliminate him. That's why he dedicated his life just to finding him while doing his best to protect his pack. Vampires are their mortal enemy. Hunting them for almost all of his life becomes his obligation, and he swears that he's going to eliminate anyone who tries to harm his people.
“Alpha Aro, what—”
“Just don’t let the boys get out of their place. Hunters know what they are doing. Trust them,” he said after closing his eyes and putting his hand under his chin to support the weight of his head.
He's talking about the little wolves that they were putting in training right now and still not ready to face anyone with the level of strength that they have. He decided to have this kind of special development so that they could protect themselves from enemies when they needed to defend themselves.
Just by closing Aro’s eyes, the smell of their mansion enters his nose after sniffing the air. It has this crisp scent of nature, earthy tones, and a hint of muskiness. The smell is associated with an air breeze coming from the forest. This gives a calm effect to his mind.
“Petrichor…” he murmured without opening his eyes. Aro’s talking about the smell of air when it's about to rain.
Because they are at the top of the mountain, his pack is the first one to know what weather will visit the whole city. This is the reason why they have the name of Solstice Enigma—the ability of their pack to understand how nature works without relying on any witch or news from the television.
“Storm will come this afternoon, right?” his right-hand man asked his friend.
“It will come earlier than we expected—”
“Then, I need to go down now,” Joanne said after she stood up on the chair where she was sitting. “I need to go back before Nana—”
“Your big brother will not allow you,” Ruffa restrains her in his lowest voice, but it’s no use because he can still hear it.
“But Nana will be worried—”
“She would be more worried if she found out that a vampire was lurking around the mountain, and you chose to go down even though you know the danger!” Ruffa answered consummately. “They make this matter difficult for us!”
“Ruffa, get the pigeon,” Aro commanded while his eyes were still closed. “Made a message to Nana. Tell her that I will accompany Joanne coming down the mountain at dawn, so she doesn’t need to worry.”
“B-but, Big Bro—” Joanne stopped herself to say something more. She realized that no matter how hard she fought with their alpha, it was no use because she wouldn't be allowed to go down alone even if the mountain was their territory. His brother is too protective of her life. Putting her in danger would not be his option.
“I don’t know if it is good or bad that you have a big brother by your side,” Raffa whispered again and he could hear it. “Even if you are not related by blood, he’s ready to shed blood for you. Just imagine if he was your real big brother—”
“And to everyone too,” Joanne whispered to him too. “He’s like that to anyone, Ruffa! He can hear you, so be quiet!”
“I didn’t say anything bad!”
“But we are still talking about him!”
Aro just shook his head at what he heard. Her sister always has his way of finishing her sentence, no matter what the argument is.
“Big Bro, can I—okay…” Joanne sighed loudly after she saw the stare of her brother.
“I told you!” Ruffa scolded her.
“Just trying if I can get away!”
“We captured him!” one of the hunters said after coming into the black wood door and pushing the vampire in.
All of them stopped at what they were doing and focused their attention on the vampire. After being silent for almost a decade, some of the members of the pack met a vampire for the first time.
At that moment, Aro knows that their life will never be the same again. Something is wrong with their territory and he knows it.
