Ch. 7Unjust Accusations

Emma's mind raced with anger and fear. The unfairness of the situation hung heavy in the air. The pack's bias against her omega family, the baseless accusations, and the looming court hearing weighed heavily on her, creating an unbearable sense of unfairness that she refused to tolerate.

Driven by a fierce determination, Emma decided that she wouldn't stand idly by. She knew she had to do something, not just for her brother but for all omegas who faced discrimination. With this resolve burning in her eyes, she turned to her family.

“We can't allow this. These accusations are baseless. We have to take action,” Emma declared, her voice unwavering despite the inner turmoil she felt.

Her parents exchanged glances, recognizing the unwavering determination in their daughter's eyes. Her father nodded, displaying a firm resolve in his expression.

“You're absolutely right, Emma; we must take action, at the very least,” her father affirmed.

“But what can we do? We're just omegas, and no one would listen to us. You know how they treat us,” her mother hesitated.

“But Mom, we can't stay silent and watch them punish my brother. This discrimination persists because we allow it, because we remain silent,” Emma argued passionately.

As she expressed her views, Emma couldn't ignore the underlying truth that the submissive nature of an omega had been ingrained in their culture for years. Changing this deeply rooted perception wouldn't be easy. Nevertheless, she felt an unexplainable conviction that she had to do something. It seemed as though the typical submissive nature of an omega wasn't as dominant within her, compelling her to challenge the status quo.

Following their discussion, night fell. That night, as the moon hung high in the sky, Emma transformed into her wolf form. She went to the cliff as usual to offer her prayers and went to her sacred sanctuary to release the tension in her heart and to escape this world just for a while.

As she prepared to curl up in her familiar cave, an unexpected presence disrupted her tranquility.

“There you are, the last time—“ a voice began.

His sudden appearance caught her off guard, prompting a low growl to escape her throat in response.

“Wait, I mean no harm. I just want to apologize if I disturbed your sacred haven last time,” Garrett spoke, his voice carrying a genuine tone of regret.

It became apparent that Garrett had returned to the same spot again. Panic gripped Emma, leaving her uncertain about how to handle the situation. She instinctively remained on guard. Garrett stood before the entrance of her cave, making it challenging for her to bolt outside and escape the encounter.
“You're Emma, right?” Garrett's voice broke the silence of the night.

Without waiting for Garrett to say another word, Emma spotted an opportunity and swiftly darted away to escape from him. She ran as fast as her legs could carry her, driven by fear that Garrett might pursue her. Garrett, on the other hand, stood there, taken aback by her sudden disappearance.

“I was just going to ask if I could stay here for a while,” he murmured to himself, a touch of disappointment in his voice.

With a resigned sigh, Garrett transformed into his wolf form. His silver coat shimmered in the moonlight as he raced towards the cliff, where he unleashed a howl to the moon before offering his prayers to the moon goddess.

Meanwhile, Emma hurried back home, her heart pounding with residual fear. Exhaustion and the weight of her worries hung heavy upon her. As she slipped into bed, the day's events played in her mind, mingling with the anxiety that had gripped her. The running and panic, coupled with the turmoil of her problems, drained her, quickly lulling her into a deep, restless sleep.

However, her rest was abruptly interrupted by a voice. “This is odd. Why am—“

A wolf's voice echoed in her mind, its origin unknown. She looked around, and her eyes met a wolf with eyes as blue as the sea, gazing at her with a mix of concern and curiosity. The wolf howled at the moon, its eyes locked onto her before suddenly sprinting away into the forest. Emily, Emma's own wolf, seemed compelled to chase after it. The scene then transitioned into a series of blurred, overwhelming images that left Emma bewildered, ultimately jolting her awake.

“That kind of dream again,” Emma gasped as she woke up, her heart pounding with a mix of fear and confusion.

As the days passed, the looming court hearing drew nearer, prompting Emma and her family to make necessary preparations. The day of the hearing finally arrived, leading them to the pack hall where the proceedings were scheduled to take place. However, this was no ordinary court hearing; it differed significantly from the typical legal proceedings. Here, within the confines of the pack, there were no lawyers or formalities. It was an internal discourse meant to address minor disputes, an informal attempt at resolution. If the discord escalated and complexities grew, involving elder wolves, it would be elevated to a higher court hearing.

The Bardwulfs began their accusations against Emma's brother. Emma listened, her disbelief growing as their claims escalated far beyond the realm of reason. It wasn't limited to the broken vase; they accused him of much more. According to them, Emma's brother was suspected of selling intel to the Bardwulfs' enemies to the pack resided in the Northern regio. Unsubstantiated rumors of a traitor within their estate had circulated, fueling their suspicions. The enemies' aggression had escalated, evidenced by the numerous threatening letters they had sent, deepening the sense of unrest within the pack.

As the Bardwulfs' accusations against Emma's brother continued to escalate, Emma couldn't help but feel a burning anger and frustration deep within her. The unfair treatment and discrimination faced by omegas like her family had reached a point where false accusations were used not just to tarnish reputations but to tear families apart.

Summoning her courage, Emma stood up amidst the accusations, her voice clear and unwavering. “This is preposterous! My brother is innocent, and these accusations are nothing but fabrications meant to tarnish our family's name. We demand a fair investigation and proper evidence before any judgment is passed.”

Her words hung heavy in the air, echoing through the hall. Murmurs rippled through the assembled wolves, some nodding in agreement, while others exchanged skeptical glances. But most of them held discrimination in their stare telling why would an omega like Emma would speak up in this court hearing.

“Emma, hush down,” her brother, Damien, urged, his voice a mix of concern and caution.

“No, Damien, these accusations are baseless. They haven't presented a single piece of evidence, and now they're adding more accusations on top of that,” Emma retorted, her tone laced with frustration and disbelief.

A heavy silence fell upon the hall, broken only by the murmurs of disapproval that followed Emma's statement. Emma could hear those whispers of disapproval, each one like a sharp sting, and she couldn't help but think, 'I can't believe this.'

“We will reconvene this hearing next time with proper evidence. The Bardwulfs will be required to provide evidence in the next hearing,” Aurelius, their alpha leader, announced, his voice cutting through the tension in the room.

With those words, the court hearing came to an end. As they left the hall, they couldn't ignore the stares of disapproval from other wolves. Whispers of discrimination followed them, a cruel reminder of the prejudice they faced within their own pack. The weight of injustice hung heavily in the air as they made their way out, leaving them with a bitter taste of discontent and uncertainty.

Meanwhile, Garrett witnessed the court hearing from the sidelines, he was utterly dumbfounded by the baseless accusations being flung at Emma and her family. It was hard to fathom how such serious allegations could be raised without a shred of evidence to support them. A deep sense of injustice welled up within him, making him question the integrity of the entire proceeding.

What was even more bewildering to Garrett was the sudden and unexplainable connection he felt with Emma. In recent times, he had been haunted by dreams in which a mysterious wolf with fur resembling Emma's played a prominent role. These recurring dreams had piqued his curiosity about her, creating an undeniable intrigue.

Yet, it wasn't just curiosity. There was an inexplicable pull he felt toward Emma, a force that defied explanation. It was as though an invisible thread connected their destinies, drawing him closer to her, though he couldn't quite decipher why. Garrett found himself torn between the traditions and prejudices of his pack and the growing conviction that there was more to Emma and their connection than met the eye.
