Jack
Immediately the disco lights hit my eyes and the loud music mixed with shouts pierced my ears, I knew I was in for a hellish night.
“Why would anyone give up the comfort of their homes for this?” I wondered as I took in the bodies writhing on the floor to the beat of the DJ's playlist.
I followed the ladies as they elbowed their way over to the bar. There, they ordered drinks.
“Anything for you, Jack?” Donnie asked, a twinkle in her eyes. She already knew I wasn't going to drink while on duty, she was just tempting me as the vixen she was.
“No,” I hunkered down on the barstool next to them, and watched as they worked their magic on a young bartender. As they flirted with the man, he blushed and topped off their drinks for free. I didn't blame him for that, Donnie and Lisa looked gorgeous.
Unfortunately, the bartender and I weren't the only men who noticed Donnie and Lisa. Once in a while, a tipsy man would stagger over to them, offer to buy them a drink, and hit them with his best pick-up line. Of course, it was my job to fend the men off, which I tried to do as politely as possible.
After thirty minutes, Lisa and Donnie stood from the bar and I sighed with relief, “We're leaving, right?”
Donnie nodded, “Yup, we're leaving the bar for the floor.”
“No, no,” I stood before them, blocking their path to the dancefloor, “You're not going to that dance floor.”
“See?” Donnie said to Lisa, “I told you he was going to act up.” To me, she said, “What's the use of coming to a nightclub if we don't dance?”
“You could dance in the comfort of your rooms,” I scolded, “That dance floor is packed with human bodies, and it's difficult to see there. Anyone could stab you without me knowing.”
Donnie held out a hand, “Stop nagging, Jack. Not everyone is out to get me. We're just going to dance for a while.”
“I won't let you.” I protested.
“Okay then,” Lisa smiled, “How about we scream so loudly that you're stalking us? You know security will come for you, right? We're hitting that dance floor, Jack. You can either tag along or stay put.”
I sighed with resignation. These women would be the death of me. And to think I'd once thought this gig would be an easy one. I would have given my right arm to get back into the corrupt and dangerous world of underground fighting.
Seeing they'd won the argument, Lisa and Donnie linked hands and moved to the dancefloor, with me following them. They pushed a drunk couple out of the way and began to shimmy to the beat of the electronic dance music number.
I was speechless at how well Donnie could dance. This was not my first time seeing her dance, but it seemed like I had forgotten how graceful and provocative her movements were. Her lithe body moved sensually, and my mouth dried.
I pictured her body doing a slower version of her dance beneath mine, and felt the stirrings of an erection. Someone pushed into me from behind, drawing me out of my dirty thoughts.
It turned out to be a man gaping at Donnie. He licked his lips as he watched her without blinking. Immediately, my hackles rose and I grunted, “What are you looking at?”
“Not you, that's for sure!” Was his silly reply. He made to move around me.
“Where do you think you're going?” I screamed over the din in the club.
“To ask those chicks if they want to dance with me, and have a threesome afterwards.” The man grinned at me.
“Nope,” I shook my head, “Go back to wherever you came from.”
“Are they your women?” The man hissed, “Because if they are, they deserve better than you.”
“Say what you will, but you're not dancing with them!” I asserted. Meanwhile, Lisa and Donnie, who were oblivious to my situation, sang loudly as they recorded themselves on their devices.
The man placed his hand on my shoulder to shove me out of the way. I grabbed the hand and squeezed his fingers as hard as I could.
The man screamed but I was the only one who heard him. He tried to retract his hand from my grip, but I held on.
“Please, let me go.” He begged.
“As long as you don't disturb them,” I gestured to Donnie and Lisa, who were throwing dollar bills at each other.
“I won't,” Was the man's quick reply, “No woman is worth this.”
I released him and sent him away with a push. After that, I kept a look out for any other intruders. The men seemed to get the message because whenever I glared at them, they miraculously disappeared out of sight.
I began to relax and got into the rhythm of the dancefloor, making sure to step out of the way each time someone tried to run into me.
Soon, a young woman in a cut-out dress made her way to me. I made eye contact with her and tried to get her to move along, but she didn't get the hint, or she got it and chose to ignore it, because she turned round and began to shake her ass before me.
I stepped back from her, but she closed the distance between us, bringing her ass flush to my groin.
At that moment, I caught Donnie's eyes and was surprised to see an annoyed frown on her face. Did she think I was encouraging the woman?
I tapped the woman's shoulder and got her to stop dancing. Turning to face me, she glared at me before hooking her arm around my neck and bringing our bodies close.
“Um . . . could you stop?” I carefully removed her arm from my neck so she wouldn't get hurt.
“Why?” The woman pouted, “You don't think I'm pretty?”
“I'm not in the mood to dance with anyone,” I begged her, hating every moment of my time in this club, “I have a job to do.”
“Fine!” The woman danced away from me, “You give off weird vibes anyways.”
I wanted to ask her what she meant by 'weird vibes', when I noticed something equally weirder. A group of three men sat at the bar, staring at Lisa and Donnie. The staring wasn't weird, but rather the fact that those men weren't drinking.
Soon, one of them, a tall and lean man with a handsome face headed towards us. His leather jacket and cargo pants looked expensive, and his curly hair framed his angular face well.
I saw the moment Donnie noticed the man, because she broke out into a dazzling smile.
Before the man could approach Donnie, I inserted myself between them.
“What the hell are you doing?” Donnie asked me through clenched teeth.
I grabbed her arm and told her, “Come on, let's get out of here!”
With that, I started dragging her towards the exit.
