Ch. 12He wasn’t armed….YET

KARA’s POV
"I mean to say you're an awesome writer. I can't stop thinking about easy it was for you to help me the other day with my work,"

"You couldn't stop thinking about me?" He grinned evily.

I rolled my eyes. "You clearly know what I meant. Your writing skills, is what. You could totally start a blog or just do freelance writing. You're sure to have a lot of engagements. And its gon keep you busy before you decide to start another job."

"You think I'm that good?" He dropped his fork noisily on the plate before grabbing the glass of water besides him.

"Well from what I saw I can tell you're good. Who knows what more you can do?"

"I don't really know but I'd give it a thought."

"There's nothing to think about actually. Just give it a try. If it doesn't work out, you've got nothing to lose anyways."

He nodded after a brief pause.

"So,when can we start? I've got nothing to do anyways."

"That's the spirit," I smiled. "We could start today if you like,"

We eventually started and it was fun working with him.

He was really great at his writing.

Real smooth.

But, he was so annoying most times but pretty much hilarious too and I laughed till my insides hurt.

"You can never keep a poker face when I'm around you. Its a gift," he was telling me.

"Yeah yeah whatever."

****

Joey came home tired as usual and he didn't stay up late till he fell asleep. I was doing some research and realized the time was far spent. I pulled my feet along moving to the living room to check if the doors were locked.

But then, I lost my balance. Julian appeared from nowhere and caught me just in time.

Now, where did he come from?

And without a word, he picked me up in his arms, laying me on the couch.

"You should be resting that ankle not moving around else the swelling won't go away." He told me with a frown.

"Now where did you come from?"

"I was about to go get a glass of water from the kitchen. Also, a knife. And then maybe... Go outside."

"A knife? Besides,what's happening outside?" I queried.

"I was actually calmly sitting in my room when I noticed something moving from outside my window"

I stared at him, puzzled.

He continued, "I couldn't see their face but I know they were wearing a mask and holding some sharp object. Like an axe or hammer. Couldn't really make it out"

Was he kidding? I looked at his face, waiting for him to laugh or smirk but he was so serious.

"Um.. You can't be serious right?"

"Do I look like I'm joking?"

"Then why the hell are you so calm about it!"

"Because I'm a man. I'm supposed to go attend to it without making any fuss. Now, stay here.Don't move. I'm unsure if they are gonna try to get into the house through the front door."

"Hey, where do you think you're going!" I tugged at his shirt. Fear was slowly seeping in. Was there a serial killer moving around in our neighborhood now?

I've never encountered one. It was always so safe.

"Are you gonna leave me here?" I continued.

"Who's gonna go after the masked man then? Or you want him to break the windows and get in?"

He touched my chin tenderly and broke free from my grip.

Immediately, I heard a tap on the door.

Julian was looking through the peep hole. I was tied to my chair, not being able to move. Was this really happening?

Okay. There was a firm knock this time.

Was a serial killer supposed to do that?

Well, how was I to know?

Julian swung the door open.

"What the hell are you doing!" I meant to shout but it came out as a whisper instead.

He wasn't armed yet.. What if...

What the?

It was a pizza delivery guy. Julian was smiling well accepting his order and then paying for it. In about a minute, the guy was gone.

Julian turned back into the house with a cheeky grin on his face. I stood up as he walked over to me.

"What was that about?" I hit him on the chest.

He burst out laughing as he placed the box of pizza on the upholstered coffee table. Like really laughing!

"Gosh, you should have seen your face. I can't believe you totally fell for that Kara," he coughed.

It was all a lie!

I hit him on the chest a few more times but he caught my hands quick enough.

"An excuse to touch me again?"

I withdrew from him, giving him a death stare.

"How could you have done that?" I glanced at the time that read 10pm. "It is really late and of course I believed you! You were so serious. Such a good actor you are."

"I immediately wanted to say it was a joke but seeing your reaction, I figured it was gonna be pretty nice to fuck with ya a little bit."

"I wanna slap that stupid grin off your face now." I crossed my arms.

"Save that for later. Wanna have some pizza with me?"

"Why having it this late anyway?"

"I just felt like it so I ordered some. Come on, let's go outside. What do you think? The stars look really great tonight."

I hesitated. "Don't worry," he chuckled as he took me by the wrist. "There's no masked man."

I gave a little smile, relaxing a little. Having some pizza with this jerk wouldn't be so bad, I thought.

We went outside and sat on the grass after spreading a cloth over it.

Then we went straight to devouring the pizza. Ugh. It tasted so damn good.

We got talking as well.

"How you coping huh?" I was asking.

"With what?" He asked with a mouthful.

"Not being with your fiancee. When is she coming anyways? Ought to be this week am I right?"
