Ch. 71Part 71

After attempting to escape with Ivy from the prison, Race was detained on charges of aiding a prisoner's escape. Ivy, now powerless and exhausted from forcing her magical abilities, could do nothing but pace anxiously in her cell, worrying about Race. Meanwhile, Race sat calmly.

"At least I will still receive punishment like Ivy. Even though I failed to save her, I won't regret being executed alongside my wife," that's what's on Race's mind right now.

In the palace, Mr. Milano is genuinely furious. His plan to distance Race and Ivy has resulted in his son's imprisonment. Mr. Milano is waiting anxiously for King Michel to come out. He wants to plead for clemency for Race. Winter comes out after waiting for a while instead of King Michel.

"Uncle, what are you doing here?" Winter asks.

"I'm waiting for your father. I want him to pardon Race. This is all surely because of Ivy's influence. Race has fallen under Ivy's spell. That's why he's behaving irrationally," Mr. Milano growls.

Winter responds to his uncle's words later. He takes a deep breath and then shakes his head slowly.

"This is all my idea, Uncle. I told Race to do this. I even gave him money to take Ivy far away from here. So, don't blame Ivy for this incident. She didn't even know anything," Winter defends Ivy and Race.

Mr. Milano can't believe what he hears from Winter. How could his nephew do something like this? Mr. Milano stands up and approaches Winter.

"You're truly mad, Winter!"
King Michel arrives and immediately slaps Winter's cheek hard. For the first time, King Michel is hurting his son, whom he has protected for so long. In disbelief, Mr. Milano widens his eyes while Winter holds his cheek and whispers.

King Michel looks extremely angry at Winter, and now Winter looks at his father and smiles faintly.

"I finally feel your slap, Father. Perhaps this pain is nothing compared to what Ivy and Race are going through now. You've gone too far by imprisoning both of them. Have you forgotten that I can still live like this because of Ivy?"
Winter can no longer contain his emotions; his father has crossed the line this time. King Michel stares sharply at Winter now. Mr. Milano walks closer to Winter.

"Enough, don't make your father angrier! Come on, go with your uncle! Your uncle will treat your wounds," Mr. Milano invites.

Winter looks at Mr. Milano and then roughly pushes away the hand of Race's father.

"No need! Both of you are the same. Consumed by gossip, unwilling to bear losses, and ultimately sacrificing innocent people. Consider this, if Ivy is really executed, who will guard the eastern region? It's not impossible for the northern region to attack again, feeling secure with Ivy's absence. And what about Race if Ivy is executed? Are you both sure Race will remain alive? I'm not sure at all."

Ivy continues to ponder ways to free Race. She doesn't want her husband to become a victim. She stops pacing and looks at her own hands.

"Can I still do telepathy with Tesla? Do I still have enough energy?" Ivy muses to herself.

She walks to the wooden bed where she sleeps, sits down, and begins to concentrate. Ivy's first attempt makes her open her eyes due to chest pain.

"I can't, or am I not focused enough?" she monologues.

Ivy closes her eyes again and concentrates once more. She smiles faintly as she manages to overcome her limitations.

"Tesla, it's me," Ivy says after contacting Tesla through telepathy.

"Ivy, what's wrong? Why are you using telepathy again? Are you in trouble?" Tesla asks, concerned.

"Tesla, can you ask one by one? I'm confused about which one to answer first," Ivy says, chuckling.

"Sorry, Iv. I'm just worried about you. What's happening? Why did you contact me?" Tesla asks again.

"First, I apologize, Tesla. Can I ask for your help again?" Ivy says with a slightly hesitant tone.

"Ask for help with what? Just tell me, Iv!"

In another prison cell, Race is being visited by Winter. Winter offers a bottle of water to Race.

"It's not red wine, just Ivy's concoction tea. I'm sure you need it to calm down a bit."

"Thank you, Winter," Race says, accepting the bottle.

Winter nods and takes a deep breath. Shortly after, he gently puts his hand on Race's shoulder.

"Calm down! We will find a way to free Ivy and you, Race," Winter reassures Race.

"I know you will do that, but how?" Race asks, unsure and perhaps even resigned now.

"Hey! Come on! You're the undefeated Eastern Knight. Can't you just break down that iron door? Do that if my plan fails," Winter quips.

"What plan?" Race asks, furrowing his brow in confusion.

Winter doesn't immediately answer and instead smiles broadly while looking at his cousin.

King Michel is in a meeting with kingdom officials. There's a report about the northern forces moving towards the border again. They have yet to learn their intentions as they return to the eastern region. This situation adds to King Michel's anxiety.

"So, King Michel, what do we do? The news of Lady Ivy's impending execution seems to have emboldened the northern forces," one kingdom official expresses his concern.

King Michel doesn't respond immediately and seems lost in thought. Mr. Milano clears his throat and approaches King Michel.

"It seems like what Winter said is coming true, King Michel," he says.

King Michel looks at Mr. Milano, agreeing with his brother's thoughts. "You're right, Brother. So, what do we do now?" King Michel asks.

Mr. Milano falls silent and gazes at his younger brother. "There's no other way," he states.

"You mean freeing Ivy? How is that possible? She's involved in many things," King Michel rejects.

"Not necessarily. It could be baseless accusations due to Ivy being the adopted daughter of the Marionet family. If Race hadn't reported Mr. Marionet and Lady Liana, all this might not have happened. Race wouldn't have reported them if Ivy hadn't been hurt by her adoptive parents," Winter voices his thoughts now. King Michel, Mr. Milano, and everyone present look at Winter. He wears a serious expression but is smiling triumphantly within.

"My plan worked; this will surely shake Father's resolve," Winter thinks, victorious.

King Michel and Mr. Milano seem to be contemplating while Winter smiles in triumph, observing everyone in the palace deep in thought.

Busy with their thoughts, suddenly, a loud rumble is heard from outside the palace. Everyone looks out, and then time seems to freeze. In the prison, the same stillness affects Race, who is in the middle of drinking. However, Ivy, surprisingly, is the only one who can still move freely. Ivy smiles with joy because her plan with Tesla has succeeded.

"It turns out Tesla did it today," Ivy says, smiling again but looking sad now.
