Ch. 16Chapter 14

It was the afternoon of Sunday, and Lily and Sarah just left the church premises after an impactful service. They head for Sarah’s home to hang out and have a sleepover later in the night.

“What do you think we invite Joshua to church next Sunday?” Sarah asked.

They were currently preparing lunch for themselves before they headed for the park to take a walk.

“Hmm, that sounds great actually” Lily agreed “But don’t you think he has a church he attends?”

Sarah’s lips formed an ‘o’

“Yeah, I didn’t think of that,” Sarah said. “But we never know, he might be open to changing church” she shrugged.

“Maybe when we meet again, we’ll ask him”

“Okay then.”

“I don’t think we three have sat down to truly talk about ourselves, like know each other side from we are GOD-believing Christians wanting to make a difference in the world by doing the works of GOD and studying about faith together” Lily mentioned.

Sarah nods in agreement. “You’re right” There has not been any discussion that sense between the three of us. I would love to learn more about him aside from the ones he told you when you guys just met.”

“Me too,” Lily agreed “Let’s finish cooking lunch so we can meet up and have that talk.”

Both ladies are waiting at a café close to Joshua’s place of work, they are sitting at a table close to the window. They are waiting for Joshua to get there after his shift.

While they previously debated where they could use it as their next meeting place aside from the park, Joshua suggested this place since it was closer to his workplace and he wouldn’t have to delay them when he closed from his shift.

“Did he say when he closed from his shift?” Lily asked for the third time since they arrived and checked her watch again.

“3 pm during the weekdays” Sarah responded. “Just chill, he’ll be here in no time”

“Okay, I’m just worried that he might be held back”

“We can always reschedule anytime, just chill girl”

“Do you want to go first or I should?”

Sarah shrugged. “We can just start a general question and let it flow, nothing like I go first, he goes second kind of thing”

Lily nodded and looked at her watch then called the server to get her more coffee and cake.

“Here comes our guest,” Sarah said, looking behind Lily.

Lily turns around to see Joshua walking towards them with an apologetic look on his face.

“So sorry to keep you ladies waiting” he apologized then sat beside Lily. “Did I miss any fun?” he asked and they shook their heads. “Okay, how are you, girls?”

“We are good, we brought you some home-cooked food” Sarah passed him the food bag the packed for him.

“Thank you, now I don’t have to cook tonight” he chuckled. “Thanks so much guys”

“You’re very much welcome Joshua”

“We want to talk about something different, something not related to all that we do meet to discuss,” Sarah said.

“Okay, what are we talking about?” the server came with Lily’s order and Joshua placed the same order as she.

“Ourselves” Lily answered.

“Oh, that’s actually a great idea. We don’t really know each other that well, we might as well do that today”

“Glad that you agreed, I’ll go first” Sarah smiled “I am Sarah Winslet, I’m an only child, I have great parents, and I was brought up in a Christian home. I want to be a therapist, I love food also and my bestie over there” she points to Lily who grinned.

“Aww, baby girl. You’re my bestie for life too. I am Lily Strafford, I have an older sister and great parents, and I was brought up in a Christian home too. I don’t have a career path in mind but I want to be able to give back to the community”

“A humanitarian,” Sarah said.

“Is it career-related?”

“I don’t know but humanitarians do all that you said.”

“Okay, I guess that’s what I want to do. Also, you know my very best bestie in front of me, I love food also,” she leaned closer to Joshua and whispered “That’s what brought us even closer to each other”

Joshua laughed. “Okay, it’s good to know these about you guys. About me, I am Joshua Wilfred, I had older brothers but they died when I was four or so” Lily and Sarah looked at him with sad looks on their faces.

“We’re sorry to hear that,” Lily said.

“Nah, it was a long time ago. It was pretty hard on my parents but we moved on, I guess” he shrugged “My parents were… I can only say my mum was the best woman in my life. She passed a few years back, before what happened to occurred”

“Oh, sorry about that also” Sarah consoled.

“It’s okay. GOD is giving me every strength and comfort I need”

“We can all trust GOD to be our strength and solid rock always” Lily smiled.

“Correct. I wanted to be a tennis player actually”

“We have an athlete in our midst” Sarah teased and he grinned.

“I don’t really have so much interest going in that career path now, this wish was something from long ago and I prefer to watch a live match or on TV”

“Any reason?”

“Hmm, I don’t think so. I just don’t guess my purpose is for something different”

“Speaking about purpose, how far are you with securing a place we can use for the center?” Lily asked him.

“Well, I got five places, I want three of us to go check them out before we take further steps. Whichever we pick will need thorough renovations but we have to choose first”

“We can set up a date we will check them out,” Sarah said.

“Sure, what’s the price for them? We never really talked about the budget we need to buy the place” Lily inquired.

“That’s true, did you get the process for each place?” Sarah asked.
