Ch. 14Chapter 12

“Exams are fast approaching,” Sarah said.

They were packaging a few goodies they bought the previous day after the three of them saved some money for a whole week. The goodies were to meet the needs of those in need. Both in their community and the other, if they are able to get there.

“These are so much,” Sarah paused to breathe. “How are we going to carry them all?” she asked Lily who was arranging the bags of the well-packed goodies.

“You have a car we can use, we’ll just have to see a spot we can park so we can get to as many people as possible” Lily answered then stopped to look at Sarah “We need to make sure we are reaching as much people as possible, we wouldn’t spend too much time in a certain area so we can get all these shared and done today” Lily completes.

Sarah nods in agreement. “Got it, I’m almost done here and we can get moving,” she continued what she was doing and so did Lily. “Your mum’s still at work?” she asked.

“Yep, I told her though and she seemed impressed”

“She said she was?”

“Nah, but she looked impressed though. She said we’re taking this thing too seriously but still left me extra cash should in case we need it” Lily shrugged and showed her the money from her pocket.

“Your mum is cool and I love her”

“Your mum’s cool also” Lily comments.

Sarah made a face and then shrugged. “She really doesn’t care, I just shouldn’t do anything disgraceful to the family and myself. My dad supports that too but they are very supportive towards me.” Sarah shrugged. “I do good things and bring more good fame to the family and they have no problems with me”

“So, they don’t keep tabs about your whereabouts?”

“Only when I don’t come home the time I said I would”

“Hmm,” Lily thought for a moment, “I think my parents want to know where, when, and why I am wherever I am. That’s why I freaked out about them knowing I meet with Joshua on a regular basis. They want to be involved in every step. No one should tell them before I do else, I’m in for something”

“That’s interesting” Sarah smiled.

“Are you sure? Most times it makes me choked up and all that. Makes me feel like I can’t fully be a grown lady without them trying to keep tabs on me and all that” Lily sighed.

“That’s what they call caring Lily. It shouldn’t be new to you girl”

Lily lets out a sigh again and then sits on her bed. “That’s not what I mean Sarah. I know it’s a great thing if you’re going to be missed or people do look out for you all the time but what I mean is that most times, it seems too choked up. I don’t know if you understand me,” she looked at Sarah.

Sarah came to sit with her. She held her hand and gave them comforting squeezes.

“I do honey, I do.” She pats Lily’s arm. “We both have different parents with different personalities and how they look out for us. Can’t blame anyone for how they care, eh?”

“No, we can’t but regardless I love them. Would never trade them for anything in the world” Lily smiled.

Sarah caressed her hair. “He isn’t back yet?” Lily shook her head “Does he sometimes leave like this? To cool off after heated arguments?” Lily shrugged unsure.

“I can say most of the time. Whenever my parents get into a fight, they like to stay apart for some time before coming together to talk about it and resolve the issue better. They always come back together. Always” Sarah laughed.

“As I said, different parents with different personalities.” She shook her head. “If it were my parents, they’d lock themselves in their room and talk to each other. Might not impose it on each other to talk at that moment but eventually they will. I don’t know how it works but I’m glad it does every single time”

“Good to know. I learned something interesting about your parents today and so did you”

“Yeah,” Sarah chuckled and stood to her feet. “I think we’re through here,” she looked over the many supplies and food they arranged properly.

“Food and supply for each person,” Lily instructed,

“Yes mum” Sarah salutes. “Is Joshua coming?”

“No, he’s on an assignment as we speak but I’m sure he’ll join the next one” Lily explained to her.

“Okay, sensible. Let’s get going”

“Before that, let’s pray” Lily stretched her hand which Sarah took “LORD, we are set out today to do your work. Giving to the needy, please protect and guide us as we meet all those who truly need these items. Amen”

“Amen,” Sarah opened her eyes and nodded.

“That’s the only prayer that came to my head” Lily defended.

“No one should make you think you’re praying less. If you think what you prayed about is what you need to pray about and you believe in your heart that GOD has heard and would answer them, then that’s enough for you” Sarah advised.

“Thank you” Lily smiled and they began their way downstairs to put all the bags in Sarah’s car. “I think we’re done for now,” Lily said and went to lock up properly.

“I’ll take the car away from the garage” Sarah got into her car and did as she said. She was waiting in front of the house in her car for Lily to come.

Lily made sure to lock up properly before walking to Sarah’s car so they could begin their journey.

“GOD bless you, child. This will last me for the next weeks” An elderly man smiled at them when they handed him the last items with them.

They spent the last three hours driving around looking for homeless people and those they thought would appreciate the items, they handed out the goods without much stress, seeing as there was cooperation.

They were also able to find out where the homeless people were kept and that gave them hope that they could do more when they try out this outreach.

“Amen and you too sir, have a lovely day” Lily smiled and waved at the man as he left their presence.

Both young ladies entered the car, exhausted from the day’s activities.

“This was fun and very impactful” Lily breathed out. Sarah nods in agreement. “I hope we get to do this more often till Joshua can be able to set up the community center”

“Together we can with the help of GOD” Lily nods and they retire home for the day.
