"When are you coming home?" the man at the other end of the line asked and she held her breath.

Those weren't the words she wanted to hear from him but he called and that was enough for her.

"Tomiwa, how are you?" she forgot that he asked something and just wanted to know how he was faring.

A deep sigh left his lips and he asked again.

"When are you coming home?"

She was reminded of the possiblity of him still angry with her and it made her heart heavy. If only you learn to forgive and let go.

"You're still mad at me for that day" she didn't ask and could swear she heard him hiss.

"Ife, I am not mad at you at all, I just wanted to know when you'll be back from school " he said.

She couldn't explain how she was feeling presently, whether she should believe that he isn't angry and just answer his question or she should keep asking and begging him so that he forgives her for that day.

She chose the latter.

"When I get back you'll understand that why I stay over at his place. Patrick was only trying to h-"

"When are you coming home Ife?" he asked once more and this time he sounded irritated.

"In three weeks time could be more but three weeks" she said with a sigh.

"Okay, I missed you Ife" he said more calmly now and she felt goosebumps all over her skin.

A smile graced her lips and she felt like crying.

"I wish I could see you every day" she whispered.

"You that did not want to study in Nigeria" he teased and she chuckled "Well, except if you have changed your mind concerning that" he said.

Ife shook her head and smiled. She knew where this would go to if they continued on this matter. They might go back and forth on why she should study in Nigeria and why she shouldn't study in Nigeria and that's not what she needed now. She hadn't heard from him for a long time and now that he decided to call, she wanted them to enjoy this call.

"International calls are really expensive, you would have called through WhatsApp" she suggested and beard him sigh.

"I wanted a change, you have been the one spending the most on this relationship especially when I want to speak with you while you're in school like this. You would always send me call card to call you and I want there to be a change in that" he told her and she really wanted to believe it was her boyfriend Tomiwa that was saying these things.

She had always tried to talk to him about adding to the relationship and not just burdening her with everything that their relationship needed to move forward and he would brush ber off or change the topic by tell her sweet words as they reminisce on how they met for the first time.

Hearing this from him made her heart feel full with so much love for him. She could feel her love for him grow again and again. How she's wished that he was here so that she can jump on him and scream how much she loves him.

"I love you more for this Tomi," she said his nickname he didn't approve of her calling him.

"I told you I don't like that thing you called me" he said annoyed.

"Tomiwa, lets not start. I don't want to fight with you" she said trying to calm herself since she was starting to get irritated.

"Oh, so I am the one that want us to fight abi?"

Ignore Ife, you're better than go back and forth with him. She tells herself then let out a sigh before speaking and changing the topic.

"Are you excited for our anniversary that's coming soon? I feel so pumped and ready to celebrate our one year of being together, I can't wait to experience what the second year will be like" she grinned as she lay back on her bed and look up at the ceiling.

"Me too babe, I got you something that I think you'd love" he tells her and she squealed.

"I can't wait for it then" she said excited.

"How sure are you that you will love it?"

"You said that I would" she answered and he chuckled.

"I said 'i think you'd love' not 'what you love' babe" he said and she rolled her eyes then sat up to pack her now loose hair in a small bun on her head.

"Whatever it is, if it comes from you, I will definitely love it" she tells him as she picked up the phone and placed it on her hear. "You giving me something alone makes me happy so I don't care what it might be, I just want to be with you because I love you" she told him.

"Oh my GOD, Ife mi with the sweet and caring words, I love you too my sugar" he says to her and she laughs then wipe the tear from the side of her eyes.

Her love for him can't be compared to anything. She didn't know how it happened but with all his shortcomings, it was enough for her to leave him and be with someone else. She feels like he completes her like no one has. Maybe because he was her first in everything, her first boyfriend, first love.

This was what love makes you do and she feels like she's so deep with him that nothing anyone can say could stop their union, she just wished that he wasn't an ass most of the time and he would take to corrections and stop keeping malice.

It's a step-by-step process, and they'll get there soon.

"Are you there my love?" Tomiwa's voice brought her out of her reverie and she smiled.

"Yes, I am" she said then lay back on the bed again. "Tell me, what have you been up to lately?" she asked him and he sighs.

"You know, still looking for a job and getting the usual 'i'll get back to you' so nothing serious at the moment" he tells her and she sighs too.

"Tomiwa, no pressure. I am sure GOD has bigger plans for you, so don't pressure yourself, okay?" she asked.

"Yes, my love. I will not, I still work at that supermarket though, at least I can get a pay that can get the rent, food and other basic things sorted"

"Yes, let's just keep a positive mindset and keep thanking GOD for what we have now, at least we aren't as we were before" she said.

"Yeah, have you eaten? And I think it's really late now, ba?"

"I took some snacks, I was too tired to get anything prepared so I just got snacks when I was done with lectures" she shrugged.

There was a pause and she waited for him to say what she was expecting him to say but what he said baffled her.

"Make sure you eat something when you get some rest okay? And get enough rest, I don't want you to be tired" he said.

Still not thinking he might not be serious about it she decided to pester further.

"You that will tell me that I should cook even when I am hungry" she said and expected a lashing from him but that didn't happen and it got her surprised.

"I am sorry for all those times" he said then paused for a while before continuing. "I know I have not been the best boyfriend to you but I want to change as I mentioned earlier. I can't assure you that I will fully change but I can always try to be the best boyfriend" he said and she grinned.

"Did anyone talk to you?"

"I made up my mind" he said.

Her heart warmed and she felt giddy all over.

"I am glad that you are reconsidering it, thank you"

"You're welcome Ife mi"

"Have you eaten?" she asked after a while of silence.

There was some shuffling from his end before he answered. "I just finished eaten abula with all the orisirisi"

"When I get home, I'll make you some soup don't worry " she assured and he laughed as they talk some more.

He decided to let her rest so that she wouldn't be tried for class tomorrow with a promise of calling the next day.
