Ch. 88RED (TWENTY SIX)

Irani bit her lower lip in worry. She could feel the loud beating of her heart.

Blue, together with their teammates went to Red.

They both watched as Red was assisted to the bench. Then a moment later, someone from the team assisted him outside.
"Where would they bring him?" she couldn't help but ask.

"I think he's being brought to the infirmary," Cashmere said.

Irani sighed but didn't say anything anymore. But then a few minutes later, she stood up and turned to her best friend.
“Cash, I'm going out for a while. I'm going to buy something in the cafeteria.”

"But we just had our late lunch before we came here," Cashmere said.

Irani pursed her lips. “I don't know with my stomach but I'm suddenly hungry again.” Sorry, best friend.

"Alright," Cashmere said, nodding at her.

After leaving the gym, she went straight to the infirmary. There, she found Red. He was seated on the bed. Her eyes fell to his left foot, which was covered with an ice pack.

"You're here, shortcake," Red said, looking at her with a surprised face.

She pursed her lips as she went closer to him.

"Are you okay?"

"Just a mild sprain,” Red said with a small smile. “Nothing serious, really."

"Okay, then," Irani cleared her throat. "I just wanted to check on you."

She was about to turn her back when Red stopped her.

"Where are you going, shortcake?" he asked.

“I'm going back to the gym now since you already said you're okay… "

“Don't leave. Stay here with me for a while,” Red said.

He held her hand and pulled her to sit next to him.

Irani bit her lower lip.

"Cash would look for me."

"Hmm, then I'll ask Grey to come so she'd get distracted," he said with a smirk.

Her lips parted. "You knew?"

“That Cash was head over heels with Grey?” Red asked in an amused tone. "Of course, I know, shortcake."

"Oh, someone's here."

They both turned to the school doctor who just entered the clinic.

Irani's face heated when the doctor smiled at her. “Are you Red’s girlfriend?”

“Huh?” Her eyes widened. “Uh, no. I'm not Red's girlfriend.”

“Not yet, Doc,” Red said, a playful smile plastered on his face.

Irani's eyes slanted at Red beside her. “Wow, you're that confident that I'd say yes to you?"

Red grinned and raised his brows at her. "Hmm, I have a strong feeling that you like me, too, Irani."

She rolled her eyes at him. "Ugh, you're really conceited, Red."

Red just chuckled at her.

“Did I hear it right from you? Your name is Irani?” the old woman from the de Vera residence asked her.

Irani doesn't have any class today. She just handed her project to their professor on her minor subject. Instead of going home, she found herself in front of Red's house.

She heard from Cash that Red wasn't able to go to school because of his sprain.

When Red texted her earlier, he requested her to bring him a strawberry cupcake.

See, Red is really a thick-faced suitor, huh?

But you're the one who said yes, said the small part of her brain.

“Uh, yes. I'm Irani,” she said, smiling at the old lady.

The old lady smiled back at her. “Red always mentioned you, dear."

"Oh," Irani said, didn't know how to react. In the end, she just smiled as she guided her inside the house.

She looked around the house. It was one of the biggest houses in the subdivision.

Well, it wasn't really surprising. Red’s father was an engineer and one of the owners of a construction firm.

It must be really lonely for Red to live alone in this big house. The whole house was so quiet. She didn't even see a single family picture displayed on the wall.

She turned to the stairway where she saw Red walking down. Compared to yesterday, he could already walk properly. He was wearing a plain white shirt and cargo shorts.

His hair was slightly disheveled. Damn, why is he still so gorgeous despite it?

"Stop drooling at me. You don't want me to melt, shortcake.”

She rolled her eyes at him.

"You know what, you're the only suitor who's like that," she said to him. "Oh! Here." She gave him the paper bag in her hand.

“Thanks, Irani.” He took her hand. “Come on, let's go upstairs."

Her jaw dropped. “Hey, wait! Why are we going upstairs? Don't think of bringing me to your room!"

He grinned. “Don’t worry. I won't bring you to my room. You have to say yes to me first before you get a taste of me. I'm not cheap like that, shortcake."

She slapped him in the arm. "Ugh, I can't with you."

Her cheeks heated up as she slanted her eyes at him. He dragged her into a room on the second floor. She found out it was a TV room. Her lips parted when what was playing on the 50-inch flat-screen tv. "Seriously, Red? Spongebob?” she asked him, pursing her lips to stifle a laugh.

"Watch with me."

Red sat on the couch then he pulled her beside him.

Instead of protesting, she stayed beside him. They watched the cartoon playing on the TV while eating the cupcakes she brought.

"Who's your favorite character in Spongebob?” Red asked, turning to her.

“Hmm, Patrick,” she said, looking at him with curious eyes. “How about you?”

"Plankton.” He grinned. "He's so small. Just like you.”

She slanted her eyes at him. “Really? What if I'd turn you down?"

Instead of answering, Red remained staring at her face.

She could feel the fast beating of her heart. “Red," she uttered in a small voice.

Red then sighed before he looked away. Then he turned off the TV. “Let’s go.”

“Huh?” She blinked. "I thought we're watching?"

Red pursed his lips.

“Bringing you here was a wrong idea," he said. "If we stay here a little longer, I might not stop myself from kissing you."
