Ch. 51INDIGO (TWENTY FOUR)

“Oh,” Red said to Chastity. “Next time, then?”

She smiled at him before going back to Mark’s table.

“You're friends with them?” Mark asked her with raised brows.

“Actually, one of them is my ex,” she said.

Mark smirked. “Let me guess. Red?”

She shook her head. “It’s Indigo,” she said, glancing at Indigo. He was talking to Grey.

“You’re still in love with him,” Mark commented.

Chastity looked back at Mark. “How...did you know?”

“Let's just say that I'm good at reading people.” He said with a shrug. “Why did you two break up?” he asked.

She smiled sadly. “It was my fault. But now, I'm here to get him back.”

While Mark and she were eating, she couldn’t help but glance in Indigo’s direction. He never once looked her way.

“Chastity.”

“Hmm?” she looked at Mark.

He pointed at her lips. “You have something on your lips.”

Chastity picked up a tissue and wiped her lips.

“Wait. There’s still left.” Mark said.

Chastity didn't expect it when Mark touched the corner of her lips with his thumb. “There.”

“Uh, thank—”

Before Chastity could finish, a hand grabbed her arm. She looked up and saw Indigo in front of her.
“Stand up. Let’s talk.”

Chastity stood up and let Indigo drag her out of the cafeteria. The moment they left the cafeteria, Indigo let go of her hand.
“Stop texting me. Stop annoying me—”

Chastity didn't back down. “I won't stop, Indigo. I won't stop until you come back to me.”

“What are you doing here?" her best friend asked Mark the moment that the latter went near Chastity.

Chastity and Karen were in the auditorium at that time for the audition.

“I’m here to support, Chas. Why? Am I not allowed here?” Mark asked her best friend, grinning.

"Shut up," Karen just said before rolling her eyes at her classmate.

Mark then turned to Chastity and smiled. “Good luck, Chastity. You can do it."

She smiled back. “Thank you, Mark.”

Chastity took a deep breath when her number was called.

"Get it, Chas," Karen said.

She smiled at her before she walked to the stage.

Chastity saw the shocked look on Indigo's face when he saw her. His bandmate's lips also parted as they glanced at Indigo.

Chastity smiled at them before standing in front of the microphone. “Hi everyone, I’m Chastity.”

Red picked up a microphone from their table. “What will you do, Chastity?” he asked, a broad smile on his face.

“I will sing and play the guitar,” Chastity answered.

Chastity noticed how Indigo raised his eyebrows with her answer. His eyes then gaze at the guitar hanging on her body.
Yes, Indigo. I can play the guitar now.

She stared at him with so much longing. But before she could start strumming, Indigo already looked away from her.

“I'm so glad you made time to see me. How’s life? Tell me how's your family? I haven't seen them in a while. You've been good, busier than ever. We small talked, about the work and the weather. Your guard is up and I know why. Because the last you saw it still burned in the back of your mind. You gave me roses, and I let them all to die…”

She bit her lower lip when she felt the tears burning the corner of her eyes.

“So this is me swallowing my pride standing in front of you saying I'm sorry for that night...”

In the middle of her performance, one of the guitar's strings broke. One of her fingers got hurt but then despite everything, she closed her eyes and still continued singing.

After she whispered the last word of the song, she opened her eyes and looked at Indigo.
Her heart hurt when she found that he was just busy with his phone.

“Thank you, Chastity,” the middle-aged woman who was part of the panel of judges said. "So, let's vote?" she asked, looking at the five people at the table.

Red and Blue said yes to her while Grey and the middle-aged woman said no.

"I'm sorry, Chas," Grey said to her on the mic. "Your performance was heartfelt but then your voice was really shaky."

She chuckled at him. "It's okay, Grey."

Chastity was aware of how mediocre her performance was. She just really auditioned here so she could sing that song to Indigo.

“Indigo? What's your vote?" Red asked Indigo. His bandmates turned to him.

From his cellphone's screen, Indigo slowly looked up and met her eyes. He then grabbed the mic from Grey. "No. I don't like her performance," he said in a cold voice.

Chastity already said that she wasn't expecting to move on to the next round of the audition. But then hearing those words from Indigo still pierced her heart.

She felt like it wasn't just her performance that he was rejecting.

“I’m sorry, Chastity,” Red said on the mic.

Chastity swallowed and managed a small smile before she left the stage. While walking to the backstage, she noticed a small wound on her index finger.

Karen and Mark immediately went to her.

“Good job, Chastity. If I was one of the judges, I would've said yes,” he comforted her, smiling.

Chastity gave him a smile. "Thanks, Mark."

“Chastity, your finger... " Karen said, looking at her hand.

Before Chas could say something, a familiar man entered the backstage. It was Indigo. Their eyes met.
What is he doing here? And why was he holding alcohol and a pack of cotton?

"Karen's right. You have a wound on your finger," Mark said, taking her hand and examining it.

"I-I'm fine, Mark," Chas managed to say without tearing his eyes off to Indigo who was already in front of her.

She noticed how Indigo's eyebrows knitted in annoyance as he handed the alcohol and cotton to Karen. “Tell your friend to mend her wound.”

Chastity's lips parted. "Indigo…" she muttered, but then Indigo already turned his back and started walking back to the stage.

“Uh-oh. I think someone's got jealous.”

Chastity turned to Mark. Her classmate gave her an amused smile.

"Excuse me?" Karen snapped at him. "I'm not jealous, Mark. I already told you I don't like you!"

Mark smirked at Karen. “I didn’t mean you, Karen. I'm talking about Indigo.” Mark then turned his gaze at Chastity. “I think the guy still loves you, Chas.”
