“OH my gosh! Tom Hiddleston’s already engaged with his girlfriend. Damn! They look so good together.”
Sandra looked at the TV screen in front of her. Jana was watching celebrity news while eating a salad on the couch.
From the screen, she saw the Hollywood actor Tom Hiddleston and his fiancée.
“Gosh, he's really drop dead gorgeous, isn't he, Sandra?" Jana turned to her. "His fiancée is so lucky to have him. Imagine, Tom Hiddleston!"
Jana and she have been friends since college. The two of them met at the university. They both took up civil engineering.
After they graduated, they both applied to the same construction firm. They also share this condo unit since both of their families live in the province.
While she was unlucky in relationships, Jana was happy with her love life. She was in a long-term relationship with her boyfriend, Warren.
The man was Jana's first boyfriend. The three of them attended the same university.
“Sandra?” Jana turned to her. “Hey... why do you look like you're about to cry?”
“Change the channel, Jana,” she said with misty eyes. "I don't want to watch mushy stuff right now."
Jana shook his head. “Oh my God, Sandra! Until when are you going to be bitter about your breakup with Jude?"
Jana picked up the remote and changed the TV channel. Their eyes were welcomed by the Ellen show. The guests were all married couples. She spotted her favorite actor, Chris Hemsworth with his wife.
This time, a tear escaped her eye. "Look at them, Jana. Everyone was happy with their love life. And here I am, being miserable and bitter about everything."
“Stop it, please." Sandra sighed. "It's been six months since your breakup with Jude. You still haven't moved on from him until now? Did you really love that guy much?"
She picked up the mug of ice cream from the coffee table and took a spoonful in her mouth. “I've already forgotten about Jude. My problem right now? I didn't know how to bring back my heart that he broke."
“Is that a problem?” Jana asked, her forehead in a crease. “Then look for another guy! Date again! There's a lot of fish in the ocean, Sandra."
“That's the main problem. I didn't think I'd be able to go on dating again.”
After her relationship with Jude, she didn't try to date again. It's not like she couldn't manage to forget Jude and erase him from her system.
It's just that she's scared to fall in love again. She was scared that if he entered into another relationship, she would end up miserable and broken again. Just like what happened to her past relationships.
“I've been hurt five times, Jana. I couldn't bear to get hurt again." This time, she couldn't stop her tears from escaping her eyes.
“Sandra, where's your damn motto? 'Try and try until you succeed, right?”
She put the mug of ice cream on the coffee table and picked up the box of tissue beside her.
Try and try until you succeed. That's her motto when it comes to relationships. But now, he wanted to abandon that damn motto.
“I don't want to try again, Jana. I've been what? Heartbroken five times? Five freaking times, Jana? Imagine that!" She dramatically dabbed the tissue paper on the corner of her eyes.
Just like in boxing, her heart was already knocked out.
She sniffed while dramatically wiping her face with the tissue. “I hate it, Jana. Why am I this unlucky when it comes to relationships?”
Jana sat beside her. She gently tapped her shoulders. “Soon, you'll find someone who will never hurt you, Sandra... Instead of wasting your time crying, why don't you try dating again?"
“I don’t want to go on dating again, Jana,” she said in a stern voice. “Please change the TV channel.”
“There!” Jana shook her head as she changed the TV channel for the third time. “That's already National Geographic!”
Her eyes focused on the TV. On the wide screen was a video of a couple tigers having sex with each other.
Another bunch of tears fell from her eyes.
“Look at the screen, Jana. Even mere animals have a love life...”
“Oh, my God! What's happening to you, Sandra? Seriously, you’re crying over tigers?” She instantly turned off the TV and turned to her with widened eyes, “Sandra, I think you need to consult a psychiatrist!”
She picked up the tissue and threw it at her friend. “I’m not crazy, Jana.”
“Yeah, you’re not yet crazy. But if you continue acting like this, you might end up in a mental hospital.”

“THANK you, Doc Dylan!”
Dylan slightly crunched at the five-year-old girl in front of her. “You're welcome, sweetie.” He playfully pinched her chubby cheeks and smiled at her.
“Do you promise to eat vegetables from now on?”
Wearing a big smile, the kid enthusiastically nodded at her. “Promise, Doc! From now on, I’ll start eating veggies!” She even raised her right hand.
“That's my girl!” He adoringly ruffled her hair before he stood up. He turned to Tammie's mother and talked to the lady about the vitamins he prescribed for the kid.
“Thank you, Doc,” Tammie’s mother gave him a smile.
“You're welcome, Miss Smith,” he smiled back before leading them to the door of his clinic.
Dylan was a doctor by profession. He was a pediatrician. He has a private clinic at St. Luke’s Medical Center, one of the biggest hospitals in the country.
Tammie was one of her scheduled patients for today. Her mother brought the kid to him because she was worried about her food habits. Apparently, Tammie doesn't eat vegetables just like most kids.
"Bye, Doc. See you at my next check up!"
The kid waved at her as she said her goodbye. After they left, he called her Mae on the intercom.
"Do I have another patient, Mae?" he asked her.
“Tammie's already the last one for today, doc. But you have rounds in the pedía ward at two pm later."
“Thank you, Mae.” He glanced at the watch on his wrist. It was almost twelve o'clock. Usually, he only accepts OPD patients until noon since he is on duty at the hospital every afternoon.
“You can have your lunch now,” he told her assistant.
“Thank you, Doc.”
He hung up the phone and gathered his things. He usually eats lunch with his friend, Leonard. Just like him, he was also a doctor here in St. Luke's.
“Doc, Doc!”
His brows furrowed when Mae entered his office.
“What? I thought you already left to have lunch? Do we have an emergency?”
She vehemently shook her head as she caught her breath. She looked like she had just run a mile.
“I saw Miss Krista in the lobby, Doc!”
