Ch. 9Nine

Shit. I couldn't help but inhale a sharp breath as I watched him walk with a briefcase in his hand. He looked exquisitely good looking in his black three piece suit. His hair was perfectly brushed up. I could spend all my life staring at him.

"Good morning, Charity." I didn't expect that he would stop in front of my desk.

Shit. I almost closed my eyes when his scent hit my nose.

"Good morning, Sir," I managed to smile at him despite the loud beating of my heart.

He smiled at me. His dimple on his left cheek showed. "Please, bring me coffee in my office. I like my coffee black with no sugar."

This was my official first day as Xander's secretary. Yesterday, I had my orientation with the hiring manager. She made me familiarized with the company organization and every little thing I needed to learn as the secretary to the VP of Finance.

"Okay, Sir." Of course, one of my tasks as his secretary was to prepare him coffee every morning.

I still couldn't believe that I was his secretary. I'd see him everyday. I'd talk to him. I only dreamt of this eight years ago. And now, it's happening.

I bit my lower lip when he walked past me. He just smelled so nice. I wonder what cologne he was using.

I sighed as I stood up from my seat and walked to the pantry area. I found Sandy there. She was secretary of Mr. Austin Villarama, Xander's cousin and VP for Marketing of the VGC. She was a petite woman in her early thirties. I already met her yesterday. She told me she has been Sir Austin's secretary for five years already. I found out she became Xander's temporary secretary when the HR was still trying to fill the position.

"Coffee, Charity?" she asked, looking at me from the tea she was making. I smiled at her as I started to brew coffee on the coffee machine.

"I forgot to tell you." Sandra picked up her cup of tea and leaned on the glass counter. "Put a piece of ice cube on his coffee before serving it to him. Sir Xander doesn't like his coffee too hot."

She smiled at me as she sipped from her tea.

"Thank you, Sandy." I smiled. I liked her. She's nice and smiles a lot.

"If you wanted to ask something. Just go to my desk." Austin Villarama's office was just on the same floor as Xander's.

After I finished making Xander's coffee, I left Sandy in the pantry and went back to Xander's office.

While holding the cup of coffee in my hand, I knocked on the wooden door using my other hand before I opened it. My eyes widened in surprise when I saw Xander in front of me. I took a step back to stop myself from bumping into him. In return, I almost lost my balance and accidentally dropped the cup of coffee I was holding.

Shit! I squeezed my eyes shut when I heard the crashing sound of the poor cup as it hit the hard floor.

"Shi!" I exclaimed as I felt the loud beating of my heart. What the heck did I do? "I… I'm sorry, Sir."

I tried to open my eyes… I winced when I saw the black liquid scattered on the white floor. I felt like blood had drained my entire face when I witnessed that even his immaculate leather shoes got droplets of coffee on them.

Shit. "I-I'm sorry, Sir," I repeated as I bowed my head and bit my lower lip. I didn't want to look at him.

Who does this kind of stupid mistake at the first day of work?

His could you be so stupid, Charity. It's only your first day and you've already made this kind of mess.

I bent my body to pick up the pieces of broken cup on the floor. But even before I could touch a broken piece of cup, a hand grabbed my arm.

Shit! Was he going to tell me I'm fired now?

I gulped as nervousness crept in my system. Damn. I wasn't even this nervous when my father introduced me to the Alinsky clan. But the words I expected from him didn't come off his mouth.

"You might hurt yourself, Charity…" Xander's gentle voice filled my ears. I felt like my heart stopped beating for a moment. I finally looked at him. His face… there was no sign of irritation and annoyance.

"S-sir?" I mumbled, I blinked my eyes as I continued to study his face. "You're not going to fire me?" I asked before I could even stop myself.

His forehead formed a slight frown, then he let out an amused smile. "No. Of course not. Mistakes like these are normal at work, Charity. I won't fire my employee over this." He let go of my arm and smiled. "Just call the cleaning department to clean this mess. And make me another cup of coffee. This time, be careful, okay?"

I cleared my throat as I looked at him. "O-okay, Sir. Thank you."

He smiled at me before he turned his back on me. I went back to my desk and called for a janitor before I dragged my feet back to the pantry.

"Okay. You won't make another mistake this time, Cha," I whispered to myself as I left the pantry with a new cup of coffee in my hand.

The mess that I made was already taken care of by the janitor who was already waiting for the elevator. I gave the lady a grateful smile before I knocked on my boss' door.

"Yeah. Come in." Xander's masculine voice filled my ears.

"Calm down, Cha. You've got this," I silently reminded myself as I entered his office. I found him behind his executive desk. His eyes were focused on the large screen of his laptop.

"Sir, your coffee." I muttered as I carefully placed his coffee on his table.

I watched him as his eyes left the screen and shifted at me. I felt my heart skipping a beat when our eyes met.

"Thank you, Charity," he said, smiling at me.

"You're welcome," I answered before I turned my back to him. But before I could leave his office, I heard him call my name.

"Charity…"

I turned around to face him. I found him with a serious expression on his face. His forehead in a little frown.

"Did you put sugar on my coffee?"

Shit! I forgot he told me he likes his coffee black and no sugar.

"I…I'm sorry, Sir." I bit my lower lip. "I forgot not to put sugar in your coffee." Before he could even say something, I already bowed my head and clasped my hand together. "I'm so sorry for this and for what I did earlier, Sir. I swear, I'm not usually clumsy like this." Only in front of you. "I promise this won't happen again. Just give me another chance. I really needed this job to support myself." I bit my lower lip. "I needed to prove to my father that I can stand on myself and live well here in the Philippines."

"Charity…"

I slowly looked up to see Xander looking at me with pursed lips. There was an amused expression on his handsome face.

"I already told you I'm not gonna fire you over this harmless mistake, haven't I?"

I cleared my throat. "I…I'll just make another cup of coffee."

He lightly shook his head. "No need, Charity. I'll drink this. I just really prefer coffee with no sugar. Please, remember that from now on."

"Noted, Sir." I gave him a small nod. I felt like something heavy lifted up from my chest.

"Good." He gave me a smile, before he brought back his eyes to the laptop in front of him.

I remained standing in front of him. Still high from the fact that he didn't scold me nor pushed me out of his office. He's really kind.

"Charity?" Xander cocked his head to my direction.

I blinked my eyes. "Sir?"

He pursed his lips. "You can go back to your desk."

Shit! Of course. What was I still standing here looking like an idiot? "Yes, Sir."

I turned back at him and hurriedly went out of his office.
