Ch. 13Thirteen

"GOOD morning, Charity," Sandy greeted me when I saw her in the elevator that morning.

I greeted her back before I stood next to her.

"What's that?" she curiously asked, looking at the two paper bags I was holding. The other one had the coat and handkerchief that Xander lent me the other day. The other one included the Tupperware of pasta I planned to give him.

"Sir Xander's coat," I simply answered. I already told her how Xander lent me his coat the other day.

"Oh…" She nodded as her lips formed an o. "Speaking of Sir Xander, I saw her at a restaurant in Manila Pen last night," she said in a small voice. "He was with Valencia Mercado."

"Who's that?" I turned to her, my brows slightly furrowed.

"She's the former Miss International, Charity. You haven't heard of her?"

I shook my head. I thought his latest girlfriend is a model named Allelli Marquez. Well… that's what I read from the web.

Sandy smiled as she inspected her perfectly manicured nails. "If Sir Xander's not only a playboy, he's already perfect in my eyes."

Well, he's already perfect for me. Playboy or not.

Xander wasn't in his office yet when I arrived at my desk. Well, I always make sure to come to the office earlier than him. I glanced at my watch. It was already a quarter to eight. Any moment, Xander would already be there.

I fixed my things before I grabbed a pen and picked up a note from my drawer.

Sir Xander, thank you for yesterday. —Charity

I pursed my lips as I read my note for him. I placed it on top of the Tupperware before I closed the paper bag again.

A minute later, I already spotted Xander as he stepped out of the elevator. He looked elegantly handsome in his grey coat over his white dress shirt and pinstripe necktie. Shit. I haven't seen his face for three days. I couldn't believe I missed him.

Calm down, Charity, I said to myself as he walked closer to me. I pretended to read something on my laptop to stop myself from looking at him. I didn't want him to see me gawking at his gorgeous face.

"Good morning, Charity," Xander's familiar voice graced my ears.

I looked up at him. He was standing in front of my desk. Smiling. Shit. I felt like something tugged my heart when I saw his smile. Damn that dimple.

"Good morning, Sir," I tried to answer in my most casual voice.

"I hope everything went smoothly while I was away," he said.

"Yes, Sir." I answered as I handed him his calendar for the week.

"Thanks, Charity. By the way, this is for you." He said as he gave me a small paper bag. I didn't even notice he was holding it until he handed it to me. "I bought it in Singapore with Austin."

My lips parted as I looked inside the silver paper bag. There were keychains and ref magnets inside. Shit. I know this didn't mean anything to him but I felt like something melted inside me.

I looked at him. "Thank you, Sir. Uh… I have something to give you, too." I got the two paper bags on my desk and handed them to Xander.

"Thank you for lending me your coat the other day, Sir."

"Oh," he said, his eyes went back to me after taking a look at what's inside the paper bag. "What's this other one? Is this food?" I saw how his brows slightly furrowed.

I felt the back of my neck start to heat up.

That's too personal, don't you think? I remembered Mariel's voice earlier when she dropped me off at the office.

Shit. Why did I think that giving him home-cooked food was a good idea?

"Yes, Sir…" I slightly pursed my lips. "Uh, this is my way of thanking you for helping me the other day, Sir."

"Oh…" His face smoothened. "You didn't have to give me something to thank me, Charity. But thank you for this."

"You're welcome, Sir. I just really like giving food to people as a sign of gratitude."

Xander smiled. "Well, then. Thanks again, Charity. I'll eat it later."

As soon as Xander entered his office, I let out a sigh and placed a hand on my chest.

Calm down, heart. I told myself as I went to the pantry to get him a cup of coffee.

I almost dropped the coffee in my hand when I saw he was already eating the food I gave him.

Shit. I could feel my heart starting to do another somersault inside my chest.

"Charity," Xander said as his eyes went on me. He picked up a tissue and elegantly wiped the corner of his lips. "Did you cook this?"

"Yes, Sir," I said as I went near him. I placed the cup of coffee on his desk. I stopped myself from biting my lips. I know he likes pasta. I've read in our college varsity magazine before.

"Wow," I watched as a surprised smile formed on his lips. "I didn't know you have talent in cooking. Your pasta bolognese is superb." He gave me a thumbs up.

I couldn't stop myself from blushing in front of him. Shit. I hoped he wouldn't notice it. "You're welcome, Sir." I casually replied as if my heart wasn't going crazy.

"I told you I'd eat it at lunch, didn't I?" he said in a pursed lips. Damn. I stopped myself from staring at those lips.

"But I changed my mind when I saw it was pasta bolognese. It's my favorite, Charity."

"I know." Shit. I suddenly blinked when I realized what I just said.

"How did you know that pasta bolognese is my favorite?" he asked, his forehead slightly creased in curiosity.

"Oh. I saw you always eating at an Italian restaurant beside VGC during lunch. I figured you like pasta." I said before giving him a smile. "Enjoy your food and coffee, Sir. I'll go back to my desk now."

"Alright. Thanks again, Charity."
