Ch. 4Chapter 4

Unless of course, if my fiancé had a twin brother who looked exactly like him. But that was impossible. If Alaric had a twin brother, I would have known. But how could I explain the differences?
I tried to smile to calm myself. “Ric, I don’t understand what’s going on-“
“That’s understandable because I am not Ric.”
My lips parted in disbelief.
“I am Caleb, his twin brother. Finally, we’ve met, Snow white. Forgive me. I was too excited to meet you that I kissed you first before introducing myself to you-“
I screamed when out of nowhere, the real Alaric came and punched the man who introduced himself as ‘Caleb’.

I WAS startled when I saw the two men who looked like a carbon copy of each other. Both of them were now busy trying to kick each other’s ass. It took me a while before I returned to my senses.
When Alaric was about to throw another punch, I screamed. “Ric, that’s enough! Stop it, please!” His hand froze in the air. “Come on, you are not like that.”
I hesitated for a moment before I walked towards him and gently put down his hand. I’ve known him for quite a long time but I’ve never seen him this mad. He had always been gentle and kind. And that was exactly what I liked the most about him.
Alaric’s other hand released his grip on Caleb’s jacket. The two were completely alike except from the clear distinction in the way they dress themselves. Alaric was wearing the same navy blue long sleeved shirt that I gave him last Christmas which he paired with black slacks and his favorite leather shoes. Both of them also had the same emerald eyes.
The only difference was that Caleb had a fierce look in his eyes while concern was all that could be seen in Alaric’s eyes. Aside from that, the two were the exact reflection of each other. Even their tanned skin, their height, and their built were the same.
Caleb roughly wiped the blood on his lips before he straightened his back. Once more, I felt the tension in Alaric’s body when his jaw clenched.
“Don’t look at me like that, brother. Gianna and I just kissed.” Alaric was about to rush forward towards Caleb’s direction to give him another punch when I held his arm firmly.
“Oops, calm down, Ric. It was just a friendly kiss on the lips. Right, Snow White?”
I felt my cheeks flushed as I struggled to control and hold back my temper. I glanced away from Caleb and just chose to focus on the man beside me. “You never told me that you have a brother, Ric. And a twin brother at that.”
“Really, Ric? You are denying me now? Ouch. That hurts, you know.”
“Will you please turn off that jerk mode of yours for a while and leave us alone? I need to talk to my fiancé and not to you.” I said when I finally snapped. Even if Alaric punched him for me, it was still hard to accept that someone like him kissed me and that I actually let him do it.
Now I’m beginning to understand what Alaric once told me. Maybe he was referring to Caleb when he said that the remaining family he had left treated him like an enemy. Judging by the way Caleb looked at his brother; it really seemed that he hated Alaric to the core. Caleb was smiling but his eyes were saying the opposite thing. And I don’t really understand why. Because it was Alaric who was supposed to be mad here and not the other way around considering Caleb’s nasty attitude. It was my first time to ever see Caleb but I could tell right away that I could not simply trust him.
Every single thing about the man radiated danger.
Caleb raised his hands as if he was surrendering but the cocky smile on his face remained. “Fine. I will shut up for now.” He was about to leave when he turned around again as if he had forgotten something. “Don’t worry, Ric. Snow White seemed to be a bright woman. She knew how to differentiate a great kiss from a lousy one. And when I say lousy, I’m referring to you, of course. Although I doubt if your precious Gianna would admit that.”
I could feel Alaric’s simmering anger when he glared at his brother. But Caleb had an unwavering look in his eyes. “Save it, Caleb. If you want to fight, today is not the right time for that.”
“Sure. Let’s continue this again later, okay?” Caleb smirked when he looked at me. “Bye for now, Snow White. I will see you again sooner than you expected.” He winked before he finally left and went upstairs.
I sat on the couch when I could no longer see Caleb. Meeting the strange version of my fiancé just drained all of my remaining energy.
“I... I don’t know how to start.” Alaric said after a while.
I sighed. “Well, you can start by saying you’re sorry.”
“I’m sorry.” Alaric sat beside me on the couch. He covered my cheeks with his big, warm hands. “Are you okay?”
I shook my head. “How can I be okay? He kissed me. And I let him be thinking it was you.”
Alaric pulled out a hanky from the pocket of his slacks and used it to wipe my lips tenderly. And as if he was not satisfied, he leaned closer and kissed my lips. “There. Feeling a little better now?”
Still frustrated, I pushed Alaric away. “You don’t get it. We are about to get married next week but what just happened made me realize that there are still a lot of things that I don’t know about you. Do you have another brother who might show up unexpectedly again? Or are you, guys, triplets or something? You better tell me now so I could prepare myself next time.”
“No. I don’t have any other sibling. It’s just Caleb and I.” Alaric said, a faint smile curved in his lips before he kissed me again. “Look, I can’t really explain the situation right now until I get to talk to Caleb first. But I promise I will answer all your questions once we’re married.”
I just nodded. After all, what else could I do? Besides, in my heart, I knew that Alaric would never do anything that would hurt me. And I would hold on to that.
“I love you.” he whispered.
“I love you, too.”
Alaric gently pressed his forehead against mine. “Everything will be okay, I promise you that. Just try to avoid Caleb for the meantime. He could be a real flirt and a jerk combined when he’s up to something.”
