Elizabeth Perrault managed to turn back into a human just in time, she has not turned into a wolf since the birth of her grandson, Charles Perrault, named after his father, now long gone. She sips her tea thinking back at that horrible day when her pack was attacked by Vampires. After her husband, her son, and grandson died in the attack she decided to grow old and die. Her grandson left behind a wife and daughter and even though she is really Blanchette’s great, great grandmother, no one knew. After all, how would they explain it? The day her grandson brought his girlfriend to meet everyone they all still looked incredibly young since they changed into their wolf form frequently. She got introduced as his mother because his own mother left the pack for another and no one knew her whereabouts. Most of the pack, including her grandson, was killed shortly after Blanchette’s birth. The pack members that survived never turned back into their human form. If they stayed in their wolf form, Vampires would not return.
Blanchette looks at her grandmother that is deep in her own thoughts. She is about to ask her what is up when she hears the wolf howl again. Her grandmother looks up.
“Seems very close, on my way here a came across a wolf, he was so friendly, I wasn’t even scared, I..” before she could finish her grandmother interrupted her.
“You should never go near a wolf again!” she demands.
“This wolf was hurt, I wanted to help it,” Blanchette says walking to the window. “I think it is the wolf I met earlier in the woods. I didn’t know they grow so big.”
“Blanchette, listen to me. Stay away from that wolf. He is dangerous,” Elizabeth urges her.
“He? How do you know it is a male?” she asked looking at her grandmother.
“Just assuming,” Elizabeth tries to correct her slip of words.
She knew it was a male because he is part of a neighboring pack. He got bitten by a Vampire the day their pack got attacked by Vampires, but he did not die, he recovered. Everyone assumed that perhaps it is because he has the blood of the first alphas. He was there with his parents for a pack meeting. His mother died saving her and Elizabeth knew the boy will hold her accountable. The boy was one year older than Blanchette. He was next in line to be their pack alpha, but he killed his whole pack when he turned 16 a year ago. The messenger died on her doorstep as he told her what happened.
Elizabeth wondered why he only came now. His first transition must have gone badly. Everyone assumed he was fine, but something went wrong.
Blanchette had Alpha blood in her as well and besides her, she is the last true-blooded Alpha left.
Elizabeth knew that the boy would find them sooner or later but she did not expect him to be so big of a wolf, it must be the fact that he is half Vampire, it is the only explanation.
Jerimiah was unable to transform back into his human form since his 16th birthday a year ago. He was fearful that if he does, that he will turn into a Vampire again. He traveled the whole content as a wolf for the past year but a couple of weeks ago he was led here with a compelling urge inside of him. He thought that maybe it is because he was born here and maybe there was a wolf pack out here looking for a true Alpha. When wolf packs don’t have an Alpha, all elidable Alphas will be summoned and if they want to, they can accept and fight it out to lead the pack.
When Jerimiah got here, he did find a wolf pack, but they did not summon for an Alpha because they already had one. They were wary of him, but they recognize his familiar smell, that of his former wolf pack. Their own Alpha, Elizabeth got a sniff of the hybrid and told him to leave. They did invite him to stay despite the fact that he was half-vampire, but Elizabeth objected. She claimed that if he stays, they won’t recognize the scent of vampires due to his cent and warned him to leave.
Jerimiah did not understand why he was led here by his inner wolf. He considered the fact that maybe his mate has come of age. From experience when growing up, random people showed up at his pack for their mates. When a fated mate is about to come of age, (girls when they ovulate for the 1st time and boys when they reach puberty) their mate if, of age, the inner wolf will be compelled to find them. Jerimiah was not too far away when the urge rose inside of him and it took him about two weeks to get here.
After he left the pack, he decided to go back to his family home but on his way there the most wonderful smell filled his nostrils and he followed it. There he saw her, dark brown hair fluttering in the breeze. Pretty girl, excited, jumping up and down in front of a scooter. Her happiness radiates off her like an aura of light. Inside of Jerimiah, his inner wolf said, ‘mate.’
He tried to leave as he knew it will do him no good to stay but every time he tries, his heart starts to ache. He stayed near the house where he saw his mate and one day followed her to her grandmother’s house. He was disappointed to see that she is family of Elizabeth and knew that she will never allow him to be with her.
One day he decided to go to Elizabeth and let her know that Blanchette is his mate, but as he already knew, she did not want to accept it. She got so angry that she transformed into her wolf for the 1st time since the Vampires came. She was much smaller than Jerimiah but because Jerimiah meant her no harm, she had the upper hand and managed to bite him on his paw. It did make Jerimiah angry and he was about to chase after Elizabeth, into her cabin when a force at the door prevented him from entering the door. Elizabeth heard Blanchette’s scooter in the distance and knew that she had to transform back into a human before she arrives. She was glad that Jerimiah is half Vampire as he can not enter her cabin without an invitation.
When Jerimiah heard the scooter crash in the distance, he quickly sped off towards it to check on his mate, but he was slow due to his paw hurting. When he got closer, he saw that Blanchette is busy gathering the groceries from the path. He hid in the bushes nearby. He was not sure what to do but he knew the only way for the mate bond to be broken is for them to reject each other. He was not sure how he was going to do it as his wolf side has taken over not allowing him to change back or perhaps it was his fear. It also seemed that Blanchette did not know that she is a werewolf.
