CHAPTER EIGHTEEN
Emery’s POV
A week has been passed by. Cliff really stayed beside me. I thought he would just leave me after a day or two, but he did not.
Just like me, he is taking an online class instead of face-to-face class. My parents organized everything for him. During his band rehearsals, video conferencing with his bandmates is an alternative thing to do.
I once sat down and, come to think of it, Cliff has got his own life, but I think I am suffocating him. He suddenly became a prisoner of mine, of my ways. which I felt a little bit guilty about.
Jae has been trying to call me, but I have not answered his call. Instead, I blocked him. I immediately cut every tie that we had. After all, I don’t feel anything towards him.
By the way, my parents just took their flight early this morning. They will travel overseas again. As a result, they abandon me with Cliff.
And Cliff, as expected, just agreed with my parents' idea.
After my online class, I went to the kitchen then searched for Carmen.
I can not able to see her that is why I shouted her name.
She immediately popped out in front of me. Little did I know that she was having a conversation with one of the band members of Cliff's. Well, I guess it was the one who was asking how Carmen was the last time Cliff and his bandmates were having a video call. Oh well, just never mind. Why am I bothered by them anyway? I called Carmen because I had something to say.
"Prepare me some fries." Carmen’s eyes widened as she heard what I had said.
"Ma’am Emery, all the fries were consumed yesterday. We do not have any stock right now. "
"Then go to the market and buy some."
"There are no available stocks right now, Madam, the farmers are on vacation."
"What?" Carmen is really pissing me off. She was supposed to carry out my command, but she had a lot of excuses! Lame excuses! Is she kidding me? Farmers are on vacation my foot!
"If I were you, Madam, just go to the shopping mall alone and look for fries by yourself." My mouth was left wide open because of what she said. I was about to pull her hair, but Cliff mediated between me and Carmen.
"Guys, calm down. You do not have to end up fighting. Whatever it is, we can find ways to fix it. Now tell me, what is the problem?" Cliff said. I rolled my eyes. Why is he trying to become a superhero here?
"Madam is looking for some fries again. She’s been looking for that food for several days now. And today, I find it hard to look for one. All the stocks in the market have been consumed by her." She really have the guts to say those words? This girl is so pathetic! I want to push her in the mud!
"She is acting crazy! As if there was no other food in this world aside from the fries she was craving," she added. My eyes narrowed. I am estimating myself if there is still some patience remaining.
"Emery, you want fries?" Cliff asked. His eyes were twinkling as if filled with so much amusement.
"Isn’t it obvious Cliff?" I rolled my eyes again for the nth time. I may say that I am now also pissed off with Cliff.
"Let us go to the mall. Let us search all the fast food chains there to find some fries. "
I suddenly felt excited upon hearing what he said. The only thing that is running through my head right now is the word ‘fries’.
I immediately got prepared as we are now on our way to the nearest mall. We went to our parking lot, but the car that remained was in a coding scheme.The other car was used by my parents as they headed to the airport early this morning.
"There is no one to use here. How can we come to the mall?" I said
"Let us walk on our way there. After all, it is just a walking distance and it is also exercise for you. You need it, most especially now that you are pregnant."
"Really?" I sarcastically said. Here he goes again, lecturing.
"Let us go?"
"Did I agree already?" Yes, I want to go to the mall, but I do not want to take a walk.
"If you do not want to come with me, then I will just be the one who will buy your fries. Just wait for me here. I will be going." He started to walk away from me, and so I immediately followed him. I want to have a fries as soon as possible and I want to come with him.
"What about renting a car? Or ride a cab?" I don’t want to lose hope. I want fries, but I do not want to walk.
"Walk Emery,"
"Based on your estimation, how many miles are we about to take just to get to the mall?"
"I do not know, am I living here? If there is someone who could estimate the distance, it is you, Emery, because you were the one who was living here. "
My mouth was left wide open because of what he said. Yes, he had a point but... Hey! He is answering me right now! Answering in a way that will surely piss me off!
"Fine! Let us go now!" Aarghhhh! This is the second time I'll admit defeat to Cliff! I hate him! He must just be thankful because he is accompanying me right now! He is staying with me right now. Well, if not, I will surely punch his face.
As we are heading our way towards the nearest mall, almost everyone we encountered along the way wants to have a picture with Cliff. Gross! How are these people able to recognize this not-so-famous artist I am with? Wait, is it really not-so-famous or am I just the one who is in denial here?
Every step that we take, there will be a stranger who will approach us and request a picture with Cliff. Not just that, I was the one they were asking to take their photo with this guy. An instant photographer is not my dream! Can I just throw away their cellphone and not take a picture of them together with their idol? If I could just do so, I would. I am just thinking about the possibility of me getting into the news headline. Details will be exposed, then Jae might be able to find me. A big no. So in this time of trial, you must extend your Emery.
"Before you think about going somewhere public, you should think about having a disguise first." I smirked. I am looking for something which can be used for his disguise, but I can not find any. I just brought my cellphone and wallet with me.
