Ch. 7CHAPTER 7

"Stop your work first, Cecilia, and study what's going on there," Dad suggested, taking some more popcorn and leaning back.

"Why me, Dad ?! It's okay for me to work in the office even if you don't leave me in business. You just go there, leave the fishery."

That garnered a sharp look from my father. Not angry but with restraint.

"I can't, one more year before the end of my term here at the fishery, it's a pity if I pass it on to the next one."

They stop arguing and was put into deep thinking. They both have a point. Cecilia cannot leave her job, while Dad cannot leave the fishpond. Even I, myself, cannot think of any solution.

How is that? So I will live there together with the chickens?

Given that, my favorite is the egg, but how about my research?

Maybe I can consider thinking topic related to farming?

That's difficult!

Can I make the workers there as my participants? If the chickens can talk, maybe they can too.

"Dad, where's the poultry farm you're talking about?" Cecilia turned to me once more.

"In La Union, you can't be there, you're still studying," he said seriously and didn't seem to notice my interest.

But I think, I can help. We cannot let this flop! My aunty only helped once, and I want to take a risk. We will never be sure unless we tried.

"I'm going to do some research so maybe I'll just do it there, I think the place is beautiful. It's like this, while I'm studying how to raise chickens, I'm going to do my research at the same time," I explained to them, and they immediately nodded.

"All right, I'll talk to your Aunt Madel, they'll visit here again before the end of the month." He got up and went straight to the kitchen, holding his cellphone and looking like he was going to call Aunty.

Am I making the right choice? The right decision?

"Ayiiieee, you're going to love each other for life," My sister teased, she came closer to me and poked my side.

"What is it, Sister!" I disobeyed and even shook her hand away, "I'm just going there for business, no lovelife! Lovelife!"

Chickens are not fascinating. What's that? Chicken-woman love affair?

I immediately got up and went straight up the stairs. I don't even know which of the three is the owner of the chicken coop then what love life is she talking about? I will graduate first before that.

When the week came, I planned to do laundry. I carried the laundry basket with the dirty clothes. I was just coming down the stairs, but I can already hear the noisy outside. Maybe my cousins are already there.

I cringed. I never really want to make a bond with them. My sister is the only one who can go with them. I was shaken and intended to call her out but I also heard her voice outside. I won’t be surprised if she leads the conversation.

I put what I was carrying down on the chair first and went straight out of the house. My forehead was still furrowed at the first thing I heard from her.

"Dad said, they are farmers, I thought they are rich, but guess what? They work under the sun," she said, still moaning and struggling with loss.

I almost cringe again to what she said. What she said was very judgmental. She made them a worthless person.

Callisto is the only one worthless there, my mind whispered so I closed my mouth and maybe I didn't have the guts to say.

I focus my ears and eyes on them. They look like having a serious meeting to the round table. My sister is in the middle next to Jelly and Cassie. The other three, Letlet, Mimi, and Diday, were sitting around them.

"Gosh! Jelly, you're just a farmer mistress, I thought you hit the jackpot since you were so proud," Cassie said mockingly.

Jelly looked at her wickedly. She was holding the cellphone that was showed in front of them and looked like someone was watching. I just leaned against the terrace jamb and did not approach them again. There is nothing good about what they are talking about. It sounds, brainless.

"Then now you're still chatting, he's just yummy but you won't be left in the mansion. Supposedly, you're not in a soft bed yet, you're just a pallet."
They even laughed, even my sister did, except for Jelly who was struggling and wanted to tweak Letlet by what she said.

I was just shaking, they just found out that the guests were farmers then they thought they were disgusting creatures. There are people who are really very judgmental, as my father said, they would not eat if it were not for the farmers.

I have this urge to correct them, but I prefer not to meddle with their conversation. Also, Jelly wanted Callisto. I seem to have tasted something bitter because of that.

"I would still like the one with freckles," My sister added.

I don't know if she really doesn't like the farmer or she's just riding with the topic.

"Me too, but it's all up to you, Jelly!" Mimi second the motion and they all laughed again.

They are hopeless!

"Quiet!" Jelly hit the table and suddenly stood up.

She also suddenly looked at where I was so we looked at each other. The look she gives me is getting smaller and smaller.

"They're farmers, so it's all for Celeste. After all, Callisto always asks about her in the chat." She grinned and crossed his arms over his chest. Her breasts almost popped out.

I? Callisto asks? Why would he? Apart from the conversation we had at dawn, we never had another conversation. He is also not a mind reader, so he probably did not read my mind that travaling how is he taking off his long-sleeve.

Shut it! Maybe he will just ask about Jelly.

"Ow, so it means, Celeste is more of a type even if something has happened to you?" and that was Mimi.

"You're not really the type, Jelly! You're really just for sleeping, only your body is the one their chasing!"

They laughed again at what Diday said which only made Jelly even angrier. Even I was shaken. That's actually below the belt.
