Ch. 6Part 6

"What are you doing here?" Greta repeated her question with a panicked face.

"What do you mean? This is my restaurant, of course, I'm here," Ryan replied casually. He pulled out a chair and sat on it.

Greta covered her mouth with her hands. "What did you say? Your restaurant? You're not kidding, are you?" her voice sounded louder than she intended to.

"If you want to work as an intern here, you better lower your tone of voice when you talk to me!" said Ryan firmly and curtly.

Greta swallowed hard, her eyes landing on the black Chef Jacket with The Food Theory engraved on it.

"Oh my God! I should have realized from the start! You wore this jacket during the cooking demonstration at my college, didn't you?" She shouted with eyes widened.

"I'm counting to three, if you still can't control your tone I'll look for another candidate! One, two..."

"Okay, okay!"

Greta interrupted before Ryan finished his count.

She sat up straight in her chair, the interview was very important to her.

"You're twenty-eight years old?" Ryan muttered as he read the resume on the table.

"Yes Chef," Greta replied, in a much more polite tone this time.

Ryan frowned, "You're a Harvard graduate, why do you still want to learn to cook? Can't you do other jobs?"

Greta was silent for a moment, then suddenly a smile appeared on her face.

"Because I want to do what I've always wanted to do," she replied, avoiding the long rant about the betrayal she had been through.

"What you've always wanted to do? To become a Chef?" Ryan looked very curious. Judging from Greta's appearance and the place she lived in, Greta didn't look like someone who needed money.

Greta took a deep breath, "I've always wanted to have my restaurant, and to build a good restaurant of course I have to know the basics," she answered honestly.

Ryan stared at her for a while, before finally closing the resume folder on the table with a bang, causing Greta to flinch in surprise.

"You can start joining tomorrow, work properly if you want to graduate with good grades, no one will want to come to your restaurant if your quality is poor!" Ryan said then got up from his seat and turned around to leave the room.

Greta couldn't help but smile. He stared at Ryan's sturdy back and tried her best not to impress the haughty man. She had promised herself to avoid such feelings for the time being.

The next day,

Greta was busy mixing and matching the clothes she would wear while making a video call with her sister-in-law, Rachel.

"You're going to work wearing a chef jacket, why have you been busy changing clothes?" Rachel asked, chewing the apple in her mouth.

"Well, I just wanted to look impressive on my first day of work!" Greta said, not completely lying. Rachel snorted, "Impressing who? You have someone you like?" she asked, blinking a few times.

Out of her control, Greta blushed. "What do you mean? Of course not, how can I like someone in such a short time, how ridiculous!" she muttered as she put the outer boxes back into her cupboard.

Rachel sneered,

"Of course you can, Dorothy told me about your habit of 'falling in love at first sight," she replied half-jokingly.

"Hmm Dorothy, just because I'm so far away doesn't mean she could talk about me like that!" grumbled Greta pretended to be angry.

"We're all worried about you, don't be so easily swayed by men okay? You have to find a man as good and handsome as my husband," Rachel muttered while puffing her cheeks to hold back a laugh.

Greta laughed,

"Oh, come on! Alright, I'm ready to go, tell Noah I said hi! Bye Rach! Love you!"

Greta hastily applied the last coat of blush on her face and then hurriedly stepped out in a neat ugly in front of Ryan and she thought that was a very natural thing. She's not in love! Not at all!

Greta arrived at the restaurant exactly at 9:00 am as instructed. As she walked into the restaurant all pairs of eyes stared at her in amazement.

Confidently she walked on her Christian Louboutin stiletto, in her right hand she carried a Hermes bag with the same color as the Chanel suit she was wearing.

She looked around, she knew the other staff was in awe of her appearance, but suddenly one voice in her ear just ruined her mood in just seconds...

"Do you want to work or do you want to attend Fashion Week? Hurry up change into your kitchen uniform, don't show off here! Everyone here works for their life, so there's no point in showing them all your wealth. You should feel ashamed," Ryan whispered right in her ear, causing her to purse her lips in annoyance.

Some of the employees looked at her with disapproval, but Greta didn't care and walked quickly into the locker.

"You've come!" said Amy who followed her into the locker.

Greta nodded, with a huff she opened the suit she was wearing and folded it carelessly.

Amy laughed, "You better not dress like this again, you're the target of another employee gossip," she said, patting Greta on the shoulder.

"What about you? You look different, oh my God look at your face! Did you purposely go to a beauty salon to do a makeover? You look so different today!" Greta screamed as she turned and saw Amy's face full of makeup.

Amy blushed, making Greta even more curious. "Why are you making such a face? Are you in love with someone?! Does he work here?" asked Greta impatiently.

"Sshhh..." Amy put her index finger to her lips. Greta raised her eyebrows, asking for an answer to her question.

"Don't tell anyone okay?! Ah, you sure don't like hearing this because the person I like has harmed you..." Amy mumbled incoherently.

"What do you mean?" Greta asked cluelessly. She looked at Amy with curiosity.

Amy gently pushed Greta's shoulder in embarrassment, "I'm after Chef Ryan Lewis," she whispered, her cheeks turning red.

Greta just listened to her words with her mouth half-open in shock...
