Ch. 44

"What the hell? You're not joking, are you?" She narrowed her eyes a little when she looked at me.

"Does it seem that I'm joking?" I asked while keeping my gaze fixed on her.

"You are extremely fortunate! According to what I've heard, there were six hot and handsome men living in that house. God! I had already imagined you stroking their abs," she even made a pout while her eyes were forming a heart shape.

I smacked her in the face with the pillow beside me.

"Ouch! You're a sadist, that's for sure!" she said with a smirk on her face.

"I'm not going to do what you're telling me to!" I answered.

"I'm only imagining it, but I already feel as if I'm in paradise." She closed her eyes, feeling as if she were being whisked away from her imagination.

"It's a little confusing why all six of them are sharing a house."

"Well, according to Greyson, they were kicked out from their own home because of their foolishness."

"Here's your snack, Miss." Manang walked through the door with a tray of cookies and a glass of juice in her hands. We were sitting next to a mini table when she placed it there.

After she had placed the snacks in the mini table, she went outside to continue working in the kitchen.

"What are the silly things that they are doing? And who is Greyson?"

"I'm not sure what their issues are. Greyson was my cousin, and he was the one we were visiting at Star University."

"I don't know him because you didn't introduce me to him," I said in between getting cookies and biting into them.

"I'm not sure how to introduce you, silly. You don't want to accompany me whenever I go to his classroom, do you?" She responded affirmatively.

"You've told me you don't want to introduce me to him because he's a bad boy."

She continued to nod. "Yes, I recall. That is correct! You're not a good match for each other. You should know that you are most fit with guys like Kurt."

"Who is Kurt?" It made me furrow my brows a little. When it comes to these kinds of things, I can't keep up with her. She has a large network of friends, many of whom attend private schools, whereas I have none. She's famous and well-connected, therefore she's likely to know a lot of other rich and famous people. If you want to know who her friends are, I can't even begin to list them all.

"You'll know it soon!" she exclaimed, chuckling wickedly.

"Whatever! Eat everything Manang has prepared so that nothing goes to waste."

"Oh, my friend, I'm going to miss you! Don't forget to take stolen images of Lewis! Get into his room and snap a picture of his abs if you have to!" she remarked with a grin on her face. I didn't take the iPhone she handed me, instead, I lifted my brows in disbelief at her. Her expression suddenly became sad.

She gently took my hand in hers and placed the phone there, but I instantly handed it back to her and walked away.

"I can't pay that, and I don't want to be the recipient of such expensive thing." I declined just before I went to fetch my luggage. "I have to get out of here. Always remember to take good care of yourself."

"Please accept this before you leave so that we can continue to speak with each other." She flashed a big smile. As if I'm going to believe that. I'm sure she intended to gift it to me so that I could use it to take high-quality images of her crush. But there's nothing I can do about it. This is a small gesture in comparison to everything she has done for me. However, if I get the phone she is offering me, I will owe her even more debt.

It is still possible for us to speak with each other even if you do not provide me with that." I gave her a sly smirk. "I have a cellphone, so I can send you a message."

She sulked a little. "It is not equipped with a camera! Please accept this as a gift."

I nod and reach for the cellphone. I tucked it into my pocket before hugging her. I have a clear feeling that she is content. "Thank you very much!"

I didn't want her to bring me there, so I won't bother her with my presence. I paid a visit to the cemetery where my father is buried. It's a good thing that we had some money saved up before Dad passed away, since I was able to purchase him a casket and cover his burial expenses without having to turn to our relatives for assistance. They didn't provide even a single cent since, as far as I know, they still opposed my father's adoption of me.

I purchased a bouquet of flowers in a variety of colors and laid them on his grave. I lit a candle before silently praying. After that, I raised my eyes to the sky. I'm aware that he's looking down on me from above, and I sincerely hope that he's content wherever he may be.

"Dad, I was successful in landing a job." I began to speak. I put on a faux smile so that he would be relieved to know that I was happy. I was able to come to terms with the fact that he was no longer here.

"Don't be concerned, Dad, I'm up to the challenge! You have raised a strong, independent young lady."

My throat felt dry as tears threatened to stream down my cheeks. "Please don't think that I cried because I was sad. I still remember what you said about me having to smile so that we can overcome any obstacles that life throws at us."

After playing with the grass that surrounded his grave, I spotted a necklace that he had left behind. Silver chain with a pendant in the shape of the letter K. I picked it up and had a look at it. Simply by looking at it, it appears to be quite expensive because it is composed entirely of magnificent diamonds.

"Who was it that came to see you earlier? It looks that he or she was well-off. Is he a good friend of yours?"

I couldn't stop laughing at my own question. Why would I bother my father with such queries when it's not as if he would respond? If only he were here, I'm confident that he would make fun of me and claim that he doesn't have any wealthy friends. That's simply not possible for us because we're poor.

I straightened up my hair, which had been dancing around with the wind. "I'm going to have to leave, Dad. Don't worry, I'll put out my best effort in my work. That's something I'm capable of." I got up out of my seat. "I love you so much, Dad. I really missed you."

"Do you feel comfortable here?" he said, to which I responded positively.

I am comfortable in this room, but I am not at ease with the thought that I will be sharing a place with six other men under the same roof.

"I'm sorry, but I have to say goodbye. Do not hesitate to ask me if you need any help. And, hey, I nearly forgot, my friends were going home later in the evening. They have left town, and some of them are in training."

He walked out the door and closed it. I took a peek at the royal blue curtain and opened it to let the light in. I jumped onto the nice bed and sank into it. "Oh my God, it was so soft!" Even the bed sheet has a nice smell to it now that I'm sniffing it. It smelt so much like an expensive musculine perfume.
