He pointed out that there was nothing like lunch after afternoon until the two major
work at hand had been completed. This comprised taking our lockers and chairs to the designated laboratories for safe keeping during the holiday and then carrying the mattresses and cupboards to designated rooms for the same purpose.
"Wait and hear from the Senior Prefects as he would organise you'", he said and left. It was a Herculean task to organise the students as the
prefects had ceased working. As the Senior Prefect, whether others worked or not, I was to be held responsible. In fact, it was difficult to gather the prefects for all hands to be on deck.
They deserted the duty and went about their personal businesses. My deputy in particular was nowhere to be found and this made matters
worse. This absence of my lieutenants and the general feeling of nonchalance gave the students the temerity to behave uncontrollably.

I took my cane and commanded everybody, from SS1 to the lowest class, to move
down to the classroom complex and carry out the required duty.

Along the line, Francis surfaced and became of great help. I also got Justin busy since
that was his work as the property furniture prefect. We all put our shoulder to the wheel with the help of some able bodied SS1 students.
The miscreants at this time were frantically moving from pillar to post, seeking solution to their problem. They initiated the idea
of going to meet the Director face to face and beg him for pardon.
"Well, that will be nice, but it depends whether you will be able to see him", I told them when they came to inform me and they left.
While we were still working, they returned and told me that they met him.
"The man said that the matter is now with the Board of Governors and that we should write an apology letter to the Board of Governors so that he could help us send it to them".
"He said that if the board refuses to accept the apology, that the only person with the power to alter the decislon of the Board is the General Overseer of the Church. In that case, we would then write to him", Benjamin explained with a depressed and anxious expression.

"Well, lets still trust the Lord for a miracle.
I don't see the help of a man in this matter being of any avail", I counselled.

Immediately, I remembered the song l had used for the drama which spread like wild fire
in the vicinity. The song went like this:
These kind boys
These kind boys (2x)
Na God go save them.
Really their fates lay in the hands of the Almighty God.

"Please, give us your key so that we can take some sheets of paper from your cupboard", Antonio Samson requested. This was what I rarely did but at that time I was careful not to hampe
their efforts in helping themselves. I gave the key
to my friend, Ben, and continued my work. The walked lugubriously to the hostel to sort out the problems.

We returned to the hostel, Francis, Justin and I together with the few students that were
still at the classroom complex. When I got to corner, it was over-crowded with the Miscreants trying to put their apology in black and white.
They were taking time to organise their grammar properly. Even though only one was handing the pen many appeared to be dictating at the same
time. I drew near so as to see how much they had been able to put down.
"Thomas, come and have a look at this', said Daniel. They gave me the paper to read and they all waited for my comment.
"Well, It's okay", I said
"Give me the pen" I requested. They gave it to me and were excited that I was making a contribution to what they had written. I bent over the table as they crowded around me and began to write in a distinctive way. It was as if I did not think before writing. There was little or no pause.
They were extremely marveled.
"Omo, Thomas knows grammar 0, said a voice.

"He has been writing for long" said another voice which I recognised as that of Antonio.
"But there is a difference between the two writings", I pointed out.
"No problem. At the end, we will rewrite it using a special writing", they chorused. I
completed the letter for my helpless friends who were at the mercy of fortune. After that, I left
them.

My corner became the place of refuge foe all. In fact anything I said that time was taken
without argument since they were all craving for mercy and I was a big gun for them.
Immediately, they finished the general
apology letter, they headed to the residence to give it to him but could not succeed as the Diector's wife did not want to see them around. The came back dejected and complained to me about the ugly situation they encountered and how far it had gone to discourage them. I collected the letter from them and promised to help them. It then became clearer to these young men how much I cared for them. Moreover, I had heard from a reliable source that the security man that I met on that Thursday night on my way to the Director's residence had told them that Senior Prefect had tried a lot for them. With all these, they began to respęct me more than ever.
It was a direct opposite of that drama night when they had nearly eaten me raw.
Even though we were at the eleventh hour already, we kept hoping for a last minute restue.
The boys were still in the hostel, not knowing that felawship had started. As usual at the last
fellowship on the eve of every vacation day, prayers were said for journey mercies.
In the chapel, the miscreants were so anxious that when I came to the chapel after a while, they rushed to me asking if l had submitted the letter.
