Ch. 14Episode 14

Despite the fact that Antonio was among the miscreants and seemed to be their grand patron, I warned him several times without making a report against him.
"Excuse me, Thomas Mike, said Antonio Samson. I turned to him. "Please tell us why you
decided to make use of junior students to act the drama", he requested.
I observed him and his tone to know if he was trying to confront me like in the past. Antonio had misunderstood me twice. He was such a logical individual. Infact, if tried to engage him in an argument, one would end up defeated. This
was because he had an eloquent manner of speech combined with his logical reasoning.
But now, I perceived some politeness in his question.
Okay, Antonio, I will answer your question, I promised.
"No! No! Go to your corner, it is enough or you can go and continue there" shouted Ricardo
Aaron supported by Edwin.
"Yes, stop disturbing us', he said.
"You see, everybody is now chasing you away from their corner, a whole S.P", mocked
Eugene, one of my classmates.
"That's immaterial, excuse me retorted. Please Antonio, I did not recruit senior students because our Pastor instructed me to make use of workers only. Among the workers are small boys in junior classes. I hope you are satisfied", I said.
He turned and left.

"Thomas, do you know that through the drama, You have expressed your mind to us......
The implication is that you want us to be expelled", said Edwin vehemently.
"Now everybody listen to me, I apologise for hurting your feelings.." I said but they
continued to make noise of disagreement. I kept calling for silence so as to conclude what I was saying. When I was able to have a little calm, I continued".. but, I am not apologising for
featuring the drama. Capital NO". I said the no with my head, mouth and eyes moving in
accordance.

"..... Even if you continue shouting till tomorrow, I have no regrets and can never have one for the drama. I'm very sorry for hurting all of you by presenting the drama, pardon me, if you
can', I said firmly with a certain level of authority.
This statement was like a red rag to a bull as they shouted angrily. While the commotion continued,
Hyacinth went and reported to Sir Raphel and came back with an order from him that everybody should go to his bed". The more he shouted, the higher the cacophony rose.
Immediately, somebody put off the light. Some were shouting "that's good", while some were
Camoring for the light to put back on. Within a short while, the light came back.
"Heem! Heee!! Nobody should wake me in the morning o-o", shouted Goodluck from his
corner and I knew he was referring to me.
Goodluck was among my lieutenants, an active one for that matter But that night I had no
friend. It was only one person who was not even a close friend that managed to defend me when there was a litte calmness. Well, my real Christian friends like Justin Etim and my deputy
were not at the scene. Some who in wanted to hear my defence joined this other person to defend me to some extent.
The din continued that night until there was a sudden stampede as the boys started
scampering to their beds and lying down flat.
l stood there for a while to know why the stampede. I knew I had not committed any crime, so I was waiting to explain to whosoever it was the bone of contention.
In a jiffy, Sir Raphel walked into thevhostel like a ghost. Everywhere was as silent as a
graveyard. In the midst of this silence, Hyacinth's voice rang out.
"Sir, I told him but he refused. I told them that you said everyone should go to bed".
"Thomas, were you not told or did you not receive my message?" Sir Raphel asked me.
"Yes, Sir" I said". But I was just trying to explain Something to them as they were all shouting at me because of the drama We featured this night

"Do you know that What you are doing is similar to someone pouring water in hot frying oil. I said that whatever you were saying should be postponed till morning Sir Raphel reprimanded a few people that were still
standing and they found their ways to their beds.
As usual, I woke up when the rising bell rang. Just as my routine had been, I began to
wake the students up for morning devotion.
Later in the day all the students were in the church auditorium for the fellowship phase of the youth week programme. An external pastor
was invited as the guest speaker to address the young men and women. As usual, the boys were
on one side while the girls were on the other side according to the doctrine of the ministry.
We began to sing and pray, awaiting the arrival of the pastor and the supply of electricity for the public address system to be put on. The pastor later came and the light was restored but
it was fluctuating.

At last, the light became stable; the preacher who had been waiting patiently took
the microphone and addressed the students.
"How many people are here with Bible?", asked the preacher. There were Some seconds of
murmuring in the congregation because the question came unexpectedly. 'Raise your Bible everybody", he instructed. In a moment, there
were several bibles above the head level.
"If you know that you are not with Bible leave the chapel now and run back to the hostel
and get one. I give you twenty minutes to do that. As he was still saying this, there was a rush
towards the hostel.

"After twenty minutes, let the senior prefect stop anyone coming in and then it will be assumed that they are not interested in what we are doing here. Therefore, they will be sent to the farm to work". Some people had already reached
the hostel. Within, a short time, some were on their way back to the chapel.
"Now, everyone listen carefully the preacher said.
