Ch. 20Inevitable

The flight attendant announced her instructions to the passengers, not failing to remind Jenny that their plane is minutes away from landing.

The man beside her, the one who insisted to sit near the Isle kept fidgeting, giving her a moment to remove her thoughts from the mansion which will soon become her prison. She turned towards him and asked whether he was okay, or in need of assistance. He glanced back at her and gave a hearthy smile. "I'm alright miss, just a bit nervous when it comes to this part of flying," he said to her.

Jenny smiled back at him and turned her attention at the vast expanse of clouds in front of her. She knew this day will come. She had always known that there was no escaping him. The old master had done a great deed hiding her from his own son—but now that her sole protector had died, Jenny must face the enviable.

"Flight 109 is about to descend, please fasten your seat belts and prepare for landing," the flight attendant happily announced. Everyone inside the plane seemed happy, except for her—because unlike them, what brought her to the paradise known as The Island of dreams, a small island with clear waters and white sandy beach, is not for vacation, nor is it to meet a business partner. No, what brought her to the small island is a nightmare, a young man who plagued her nights with a the torturous music of her own tears. A man who had taken so much from her, and still—seem to want more.

Jenny sighed when the plane made its final descent, she closed her eyes and counted from one, two, three—she continued on, until the flight attendant spoke again, thanking everyone for choosing Caracia Airlines.

When everything inside the plane had settled down and the engine finally died, Jenny heard the passengers releasing a slow clap, it was silent at first but gradually exploded into an ear splitting sound, mixed by laughter and numerous talks from her co-passengers.

Jenny wished she could smile like them too, how she longs to step outside the plane, believing that it is only for vacation, just as she did, years ago. But no, her return will no longer be thesame as it was before. There is no old master to protect her and no hotel where she could stay protected, perhaps, it is safe to say—Jenny can no longer hope for anything better, because she had finally ran out of luck. The days that lie ahead of her will all go wrong, and no matter how much she will struggle—she will never come out victorious.

After exiting the plane, Jenny stood like a zombie in front of the baggage carousel. She ran a hand over her long blond locks and released a heavy sigh. When she learnt of the old master's death, she had a choice—run, or wait for Carl to find her. But knowing how hard it was for the old master himself to hide her from his son, she knew—surrender was her only option.

Although Jenny haven't seen Carl in years, she still felt that he held a grudge and a deep seeded hatred towards her, if not—why did he demand that she become his wife?

Is it because Carl loves her? She doubts it. She is no man's fool, but she had given him a lot of reasons to hate her. She had run away from him, even coerced his own father to help her hide from him. Only a moron would keep his love alive after such an insult.

It's not that Jenny hates Carl, but his possesive nature was something that bled the life out her. Not only did the boy control her life in a twisted way when they were kids, he also made things hell for her when they were teens. The marriage, as Jenny can't help but theorize, is probably a way to punish and torture her. Carl's revenge for all the years she had tormented him.

"Miss, are you alright?"

The question which came from the man that stood beside her ripped her out from her musings. She smiled at him and answered, "yes."

"Well, this is the third time the carousel made its round, I believe your things had passed-by minutes ago," the man whispered.

Jenny's eyes became wide as saucers when she realised that yes, she had been standing infront of the baggage carousel for quite some time.

"Oh, I'm sorry—I think I spaced out," She answered while scanning the up-coming batch of luggage. When she saw her things, she immediately picked it up and went her way.

When she finally found herself at the arrival area, that's when her heart began to hammer inside her chest. Everything around her seemed to swirl in a clockwise motion, she can even feel the bubbling of something nasty rising from her stomach to her throat. She can hear a high pitched sound coming from the vendo machine inches from her, assaulting her ears in a way that increased her trepidation.

She stood on the isle motionless for about two minutes, before her phone finally rang. When she answered, the voice on the other line sounded deep and cold, but all too familiar.

"Turn to your right," the person on the other line said to her—so she did.

When her full form finally made the eighty degree turn, she saw her doom in the embodiment of a Man, wearing a black suit, matched with a black neck tie—standing like a god amongst the others around him. His shoulder length hair is tied back, but a few strands was left loose to cradle the side of his face. His nose is as perfect as she remembered them and his cheekbones is as prominent as that of an aristocrat. The creamy complexion of his face too, remained thesame. It is a testament to the grandeur of his life style. But what truly shook Jenny, is not the gorgeousness of his face—it was the set of obsidian eyes that gazed back at her, dark, menacing—like an ominous night sky which is void of twinkling stars.  They looked dead, and Jenny can only shiver by the obvious promise of hell which those eyes didn't fail to deliver.

"Now come to me," he commanded over the phone.

Jenny swallowed the lump of saliva which had pooled inside her mouth, she willed her shaking legs to move. Her limbs felt like an invisible weight is weighing them down. She's like a person on death row, very step she took brought her closer to the guillotine. When she was a few meters from him, her head suddenly felt light. It's as if her sight had vanished and all that's left infront her is darkness.

But Jenny persevered, she kept walking, until she found herself a scant space away from the embodiment of her nightmares.

She looked up at him and saw that his lips are forming a grim line.

"Hello," Jenny managed to choke out. That's when Carl finally smiled at her and said, "Welcome to back."
