Ch. 7Chapter 5

"Are you okay?" He asked me.

"Yeah, I'm okay, just a little bump here" I say pointing to the little bump forming on my forehead.

Ignoring me, he hitched me up in his arms, making me squeal in embarrassment and began the walk to the school infirmary. The other students shuffled in fear when he approached them, their eyes wide open in terror. I wasn't even limping, it was just a bump on my head.

"Put me down" I deadpanned. But he ignores me again.

What?

Walking into the infirmary we see a nurse in there sitting behind a desk, she gives the both of us a bright smile. I guess she wasn't afraid of Luca. She looks like she was in her early forties and had that motherly kindness and smile to her

"What happened here?" She says with a small smile after she sees me returning her earlier kind smile, while gesturing at me to sit down on the bed at the side of the white room.

"She was shoved by a random student" Luca responds for me, with a scowl on his gorgeous face.

"Accidentally, of course" I add in with a small laugh.

The nurse sent a smile our way, passing me an ice pack, before walking to get some pain relief drugs for me.

A full period later after taking the drugs and laying on the bed, I felt a lot better and surprisingly Luca was still here. Not talking or anything just sitting on the chair and looking around, he only spoke a few times when I initiated a topic. Me being me, spoke a lot, even with the headache at the beginning I just kept rambling.

I wasn't a talker, to people who didn't know me, but Tasha and Jackson always called me a mouthful whenever I started rambling.

I stood up and thanked the nurse while Luca went ahead to grab our bags and opened the door for me to walk out before he walked out.

He grabbed my hands and I smiled secretly.

~

Luca and I arrived at the door of our history class with our hands still attached. As I was about to pull away before entering the classroom, his larger and stronger palm tightened its grip around my small one dominantly.

Flushing lightly, I looked away while he knocked on the door to the class.

The teacher opened the door with a questioning look.

"I'm so sorry Mr-" I was cut off by Luca just as I was about to stutter out an apology.

"I had to take her to the nurse, she had a minor accident" He said gruffly, while showing the teacher the note the nurse gave us to give to the teacher since we were already 5 minutes late for our next class.

I'm guessing he said that for my sake because he looked like he didn't care if he was allowed in or not.

When we both entered, the whole students had their eyes on us.

But Luca, not one to care, walked me to the back of the class, he placed my bag on the ground next to my seat and did the same to his bag also, before sitting his large frame in his seat.

Offering a thank you and a small smile, I sit down next to him before paying attention to the teacher at the front.

~

Lunch time came and I packed my books in my locker, closing it shut. Looking around the sea of students I see Luca coming out of the emergency exit of the school where a large number of students who skip classes go to smoke and drink.

Jogging as fast as my chubby, jelly legs could take me, I called out his name.

"Luca wait"

As I reached him, my face was flushed with exertion and well my hair was a mess.

After catching my breath, I smiled shyly at him.

"Uhm, I was wondering if you'd like to have lunch with me?" I ask with a small smile.

Looking up at him, I realized that I didn't quite reach the high point of his chest, rather I was at the middle of his chest.

Yes, I was really that short.

I see his jaw twitch a little, making me look down at my disheveled state to arrange my clothes and hair.

"Sure," He shrugs, rearranging his backpack.

Grinning up at him, I mindlessly grab his hand before leading us to the cafeteria.

Walking quietly but comfortably to the cafeteria, I looked down at our palms and realised how much of a contrast we were to each other.

While he was white and tanned, I had brown skin. He was and I was short, I had to walk twice as fast in order to keep up with his larger steps, he even had to slow down a bit for me to catch up with him, with tattoos decorating his wrist and fingers like art, I had nothing on mine. While he had a much bigger, stronger and rougher palm, mine was small and as soft as a baby's.

Immediately we entered the cafeteria he turned us to where the food was being served but I stopped him with a tug on his hand, making him stop and turn back to look at me with a soft look on his face, he raises an eyebrow asking me why I stopped walking.

I smiled shyly, showing him my lunch bag.

A look of understanding crosses his face and he nods his head.

Walking to the usual table where my friends sat, I see Luke and Tasha making out, and Jackson chatting with his boyfriend with a small blush on his face.

Not everyone knew Jackson was gay, but with the way he was gazing at the other guy with so much love in his eyes you could clearly see he was gay.

Luca gripped my hands, as we neared the table. And I was surprised to say, since he attended this school before going to juvie, and I just moved here a few months ago, he's warming up to me really fast. But I guess he didn't know them. Since Tasha only just started dating Luke recently. But they knew him.

"Hey guys, this is Luca" I gestured to him with my free hand.

"I asked him to join us for lunch if you don't mind" I said to them while taking a seat and Luca sitting right next to me.

Tasha and Jackson both nodded with smiles, although it seemed more nervous than welcoming.

"Hey man, I'm Jackson and this is Natasha" Jackson said as he introduced the both of them.

"And this is my friend Matthew," Jackson said, pointing to his boyfriend.

Luca gave a curt nod, with my hands still in a death grip by him.

His brother, Luke, gave him a small smirk while looking at our joint hands.

With Tasha and Jackson giving me sly smiles.

Bringing out my lunch, a peanut butter sandwich and an apple juice, I begin to eat until I notice Luca wasn't eating.

"Where's your lunch Luca?" I ask him with a small whisper.

"I eat at home or at the drive-thru downtown" I leaned down to answer me, with his mouth close to my ear.

Almost shivering at the close proximity, due to his voice, I ask if he would like to eat my sandwich but he doesn't like nuts.

"We could go downtown to get your food you know...." I say to him since I dragged him here with me, it's only fair that I go with him to get his food.

"Okay" He replied.

Finishing my food minutes later, he grabbed my hand while holding my backpack-not that I minded or anything- before I rushed out a bye to the others, while trying to keep up with his steps.

Walking to the parking lot, he opened the door to the passenger seat for me and I got in, immediately welcomed by his smell joined with the smell of a new car, while he got in on his side. It was heavenly and I leaned back in the leather seats before putting on my seat belt.

He pulled away from the school compound and sped down the street, obviously a pro at this with the way he was driving and the speed he was going at.

After a while he drove into the line of cars that led to the drive-thru.

"Do you want anything?" He asked, as we were approaching the front.

"No, I'm good," I replied.

After a while, we got to the front and ordered for himself, but instead of a pack, he ordered for two.

"I said i-" I was about to tell him about me being full, but he gave me a blank look, before telling me to collect the food.

Luca being Luca was too busy giving me the money to pay, to realise that the cashier was checking him out.

Telling her to keep the change, he drove off.

Reaching the school building, he parked his car and we walked towards a shade underneath a huge tree and we sat on the grass, unpacking the food and eating, with me doing most of the talking and him adding occasional smirks and smiles.

I guess he really is warming up to me.
