The door of the room was half open. Ruth kept on complaining that the room reeked of urine.

"I wonder how you don't get to smell after taking your bathe, even when you're a chronic bed wetter." Ruth hissed with irritation written all over her face.

"You should have seen the gallons of water she was gulping down last night. As if she was a frog." Melissa seconded her.

"Wait?" Ruth turned to her. "Are you serious?"

Melissa sighed. "I'm damn serious."

"I drank nothing more than a bottle of can water. And I did that because I was very thirsty." I defended myself.

"You better not start lying. Where you not the one that quickly put the last can water down when I entered the room?" Melissa gave me an intimidating look that didn't affect me.

"That's a lie. And please, mind the kind of stuffs you say about me." I rolled my eyes angrily.

"For Christ sake, Faith respect yourself. How can you be at peace with yourself when you keep torturing us here with this wicked smell. Then you would drink the whole world before sleeping." Ruth faced me.

I was sad.

"I'm tolerating you because of one thing. Do you think it's all this stupid trash you form for our class boys? I haven't told them that you're bed wetting even at seventeen for a reason. And you should thank the God of your fathers that you didn't join our classmates in passing those stupid comments at me earlier today. I would have finished you." Ruth stated.

I gulped down.

Fiona was giving me a pitiful look. She looked like she wanted to tell me sorry.

Bad energy.

That was what my roommates were to me. They knew how to emotionally and pyschologically oppress one.

And I was a victim.

A victim, even of circumstances.

Tonight was social night. It was always what the students looked up to as a reward of their hectic week.

But tonight was just not promising.

After my experience with my roommates, I didn't feel the social night vibes.

The sea green Ankara high waist skirt I wanted to wear with my black slightly off shouldered top was sprawled on top of my lilac box which I brought out from my wardrobe.

I hissed, suddenly feeling down.

There was a frantic knock on the mahogany door of the room. I didn't bother checking who it was.

"All this unwanted visitors," Melissa hissed as she went to see who it was that came visiting.

"Faith, One Rachael of a girl wants to see you." Melissa announced rudely.

Rachael? It had to be my class Rachael.

I stood up quickly and went to the door where she awaited me.

"Hi," I greeted dryly with a forced smile.

"I came to know if you're prepared so that we will go to the hall together." Rachael said.

So she came all the way from Ruby Hostel to drag me to the hall which was always the venue of the social night.

"Don't you get tired of all this social nights? It happens every week." I tried being pessimistic.

But she was much of an optimist. "Every social night is way more exhilarating than the other. And you know that."

True.

"Give me ten minutes, I'll be outta here." I promised her as I returned to get dressed.

Six devious pairs of eyes belonging to my roommates stared intently at me as I wore my dress and silver three inched sandals.

Nevertheless, I waved them and left with Rachael.

"I didn't know you are roommates with Melissa." Rachael began.

Obviously, she wanted a discussion. But right now, that was the least thing in my scale of preference.

I kept mute.

"Well, I know her. Her mother used to be a close friend of my mom. But then, that was then." She continued.

Okay.

We walked past lots of other students in Emerald hostel who were mostly dressed and exiting the hostel.

"What's up with this dumb attitude?" Rachael blurted out with slight annoyance.

Extroverted, life of any social group, Viber, loquacious and cool minded was the exact description of her.

I arched her a brow.

Was that an insult or a comment? I couldn't distinguish.

"Every living thing has life. And whatever that has life speaks. So darling, make use of that mouth of yours." She said.

"Plants don't talk." I stated. "But they have life."

Rachael sighed. "You're not a plant. You have a brain as well as a mouth. Then talk."

She continued. "Criticize, compliment, comment. I want to see that music room version of you everyday."

I sighed tiredly. "I think we are already at the hall."

When we entered the hall, it was almost filled with teenagers like me.

"Let's corrupt." I thought I heard Rachael say as she stood beside me.

I turned to her. "What did you just say?"

She stared at me with disconcertion. "Lets cooperate."

Her looks were like, 'okay, are you all right?'

We stood there for quite a while before Rachael became bored of standing just like a tree.

She wanted to get high on alcohol. Play the tough games with others and then dance till she's sweating like a hog.

Of course, body no be firewood.

"Ah! The quiet one. How are you dear?" Once Rachael left, some piece of trash walked up to me.

I was irritated. Even without sparing whosoever that it was a glance, I was annoyed.

He got a reaction when he touched my hand.

Quickly, I used my handkerchief to wipe the area of the assault.

That probably got on his nerves. "Wait, what are you feeling like? Fresh? Ha! Don't overrate yourself."

I sighed and left that particular spot.

Social nights were usually in between for me. I had to blend to it.

The noises and illegal attitudes were turn offs since I suspected myself to be autistic.

"Care for a dance?"

Usually, I would simply chat around with Helen. But hell, I don't even know if she's present or absent here.

"Oh, you must hate dancing. Care for a conversation?"

I really wished Helen was here. Well, she might be. I just wished I came with her.

She wouldn't leave me, to vibe with others. She was that considerate.

I felt an arm hung on my shoulder. Such weight on my frail shoulders was terrifying.

"Can you..." I stared at the creature who winked just in time at me.

"You must be awfully sensitive. Just a mere arm crossing, got my attention. Something,my words couldn't."

I was disgusted. He took notice of it cause he was the one that took his filthy arms off my shoulders.

"Now you've gotten my attention, how can I help you?"

He smiled. "Are you in for a quickie?"

The guts.

He actually carried his shameless self here to rile me up further. Even with me in my darned mood.

"Not everyone is normal, by the way." I muttered to myself.

He stared hard and long at me. I couldn't decipher what he was up to. "You..." He muttered. "I know something about you."
