Ch. 7Reuniting with Loved Ones

As the three travelers sat sipping on their mugs of hot green tea, they looked back thinking how lucky they all were to escape from the evil men with their lives. Morgan apologized to the two women for his ruff behavior, but he explained that he had to make the brothers, and Jimmy believe that he was committed to go along with their plans. This would give him the chance he would need to rescue the women from these evil characters. The women both kept thanking Morgan for saving them from their doomed fate if they had stayed captives of the Black brothers, and Jimmy Gopps. Now they would keep heading to Dumbartonshire where they would live the rest of their lives with people that truly loved and cared about them. Well it least that was Una's plan, eventhough Fenella had her family in Dumbartonshire, her heart belonged to Keary so she would most likely end up married to him. She would most likely leave Dumbartonshire at some time in the future to spend her life with Keary. At the moment they were just working on getting safely to Dumbartonshire.

“Your father must be a real shady character to place a bounty on his own daughter's head” replied Morgan to Una.
“I knew your mother (Effie) many years ago, before you were born, before she married your father. I used to be the grounds keeper of your grandfather's estate. He sent me to work in Whales to run his youngest brother's sheep farm, he was your great uncle Shawn, died of heart failure at 32 years of age. His wife was left a young widow with three young children and a sheep farm to run. So I ended up running the farm there for a couple of years, my plan was to save enough money to buy a small plot of my own land and build a house on it when I returned. Then I was going to approach your grandfather after I had my own house and land to prove to him that I could provide for your mother. The other farmhand John O'Connor and your aunt Maggie married. I then I returned home to find that your mother had married your father.”

“I have to say I was heartbroken to hear this news. An old friend of mine had suggested that I become a bounty hunter as he had heard the county of Merrick was looking to hire one. So that is how I became a bounty hunter, I was pretty good with a gun. I think your grandfather knew how fond I was of your mother—she was the most beautiful woman I had ever laid eyes on. He sent me to Whales to keep me far away from your mother—he did not want is daughter to marry beneath her—which was me—one of his servants. No one ever held a light to your mother, there was a big hole in my heart when I heard that she had wed another. Now it breaks my heart even more to hear that he is nothing, but a brutal tyrant. I wanted to ask your mother to marry me I loved her dearly—we even discussed running away to be together and getting married in another land away from her father. There is more to this story that I would like to share with you Una, but first you must talk to your mother and ask her about me. I think it is high time that you new the truth about what really happened” replied Morgan tenderly to Una.

“What are you saying that you and my mother were lovers?” Una replied in a shocked tone.
“I have said too much, this is something that you will need to speak to your mother about. Please forgive me I never know when to shut my mouth. I had no idea that you and your mother were living in a life of such misery and pain. How selfish I have been, I have spent many years feeling sorry for myself in not be able to marry the women I loved—without thinking about how her life truly was—I couldn't get past the jealousy, hurt and anger I felt in knowing she had married another. She had promised to wait for my return from Whales, but something happened—she was forced to marry the heartless tyrant Fergus Mullan.”

“I am shocked and surprised to hear this Morgan, my mother never spoke of you, she rarely spoke about her past at all. She never seemed to want to talk about her life with me for some reason—she always seemed so unhappy and sad most of time. Of course I am sure a big reason for that is my father has always been nasty—nice is not in his nature.
He is evil to his core, he only thinks of what his gains will be, he hurts people to get what he wants, including his own wife and daughter” sobbed Una.

“I am sorry Una I did not mean to upset you please forgive me, I don't know when to shut up at times I am truly sorry” replied Morgan in a soft tone.
“It is alright Morgan I know that you meant no harm, there is questions that I need answers to I must go back and speak to my mother at once! How could my father put a bounty on my head just so he could drag me back to the misery that he had me living in my whole life. He was going to make sure that continued by marrying me off to a man I did not love. Why couldn't he just love me and my mother—instead he chose to mistreat us both in a loveless household. I need to know why, and I think my mother can answer that. I will return there and speak to my mother, I want to know what happened in the past. We must go back and find out the truth behind the bitter household I grew up in, before we can make plans for the future!”
