Ch. 10Finally Questions are Answered

Just before Morgan descended the cellar stairs he shouted towards Fergus, “If I find the body of the missing cook Vera in your cellar—you are going to jail for a very long time for the murder of her!”
Poor Vera's body was indeed under some old flour sacks in a dark corner of the basement. Morgan ordered Egan to have the mortician come to collect the body, and also to tell the Sheriff to head out here to collect the murderer and bring him to justice.
Una ran up to her mother's rooms knocking on the locked door frantically shouting for her mother. Effie opened the door shocked to see her daughter standing before her. Mother there is so much we need to talk about! The two women embraced and then entered Effie's rooms to have a moment of private conversation. Una eventually came out of the room and summoned Morgan to join her mother and her in the room. It was time for them to hear the truth about their history.

When Morgan walked through the door to Effie's sitting room both of their eyes lit up in seeing one another, as it had been so many years since they last set eyes upon one another. Effie welcomed Morgan and asked him to sit and join her and Una. She apologized to both of them for keeping the truth from both of them all these years. She started with talking to Morgan and telling him that she found out that she was pregnant, she did not know what to do, because he had been sent to Whales. They had discussed getting married, they had planned to marry each other even if they had to run away to be with one another. But she was young and frightened and when she spoke to her sister of her condition, she was planning to contact Morgan to let him now that she was with child.

Fergus Mullen had overheard her discussing this delicate situation with her sister Emma when they were sitting in the garden. He armed with this information went to her father and told him that he was willing to marry his daughter that would certainly bring shame to the good name of his family if she is not married as quickly as possible. Fergus was only interested in getting his hands into the money he requested from my father to marry me. He black mailed my father because he knew that my father was a proud man and his families good name meant the world to him even at the cost of his daughter's happiness.

“When my father announced to me of his plans to marry me off to Fergus Mullen I was in tears, but he was furious and he let me know that he knew that I was with child. He made it quite clear that he was not going to allow me to tarnish the good family name so this was the sacrifice that I had to make. I was totally heartbroken and ashamed of what had become of me. The little joy I had in my life was having two wonderful children, that I was unable to protect from my ogre of a husband. I live with that guilt every day. I am sorry I never contacted you Morgan, I did try to write you a letter but it was intercepted by Fergus who beat me severely for that and locked me in my rooms for a month and taking Una away from me as punishment. I had to do what was necessary in order to get back into his good graces so that I could see my child once again. So I am sorry that you are just finding out now that you have a daughter Morgan. Una I am sorry dear that I never told you the truth about who your real father was sooner. Fergus treated you so unkindly I thought because you were not his child, but he treated Kennan badly as well who was his son. Fergus Mullen was a man filled with deep hatred against the world. He was just an evil man that found his pleasure in hurting those that had the misfortune of being in his presence” replied Effie softly.

“This is certainly not the best of circumstances for you both to be meeting each other as father and daughter. I apologize to you both with all of my heart” sobbed Effie.
Morgan got up and hugged Effie and told her she need not apologize, she was put in a living hell along with her children—living under the tyranny rule of Fergus Mullen for far too long. She deserved to spend the rest of her life being free of this cruel man. He turned to Una and hugged her saying that he was so proud and happy to find out that she is his lovely daughter. The three of them hugged each other and dried their tears.
There was much to start planning. Effie was going to seek a divorce from the courts—she had no desire to be married to the cold blooded murderer Fergus Mullen any longer. She and her children would finally be free of the horrible ogre Fergus once and for all. Una had felt so happy when she heard that the cruel Fergus was not her real father—but her real father was the man who rescued her. She was so happy to have Morgan as her father she began to cry tears of joy mixed with sadness. This was a day that would change her life forever. Her and her loved ones were finally free of living in fear of the horrible wrath of Fergus. She had two parents now that she knew would love her and only want the best for her. She had at last found her happiness in life, being surrounded by those that truly cared for her and loved her.
